  • Re: Charlyne 95 Z28 M6

I had those same rear tires with a skinny radial up front.. for about a week. They were horrible on the eway(yes I know your not supposed to drive them on it) but it seemed like the mix between the 2 tires was not good. But on a good note those tires hook.
Also nice parts man!!! Can't wait to see it going.

    • /\ didn't see you had radials up front with the slicks in the rear, I drove that setup for about 10 miles and got that shit off my car asap even at 40mph the rear of car was swaying all over the road. Some people say its a myth and I never investigated why the car did that but I can tell you I swapped the rears to drag radials and never had the problem again. Anybody know why this happens?

      • Bias front and radial rear = good

Bias rear and radial front = bad!

I'd wager its everything to do with sidewall stiffness

          • for what its worth mine were 10.5S tires (s indicates stiffer sidewall better for heavier cars) and also had around 18-20lbs on air in them at the time.

That would still be on the softer side wouldnt it?

Ive noticed a huge difference in steering characteristics just changing wheel size and maintaining the same type of tire/psi. To me a radial up front sounds like it will have a sharp steering response, and the soft tire behind it will have a bit of a "lag" to follow. I can imagine that would make for a full time job keeping it straight at 70+

              • I did the radial front/bias rear and maybe I'm just a pussy but it felt pretty squirrelly at the top of the track @ ~118-120mph. My car was a heavy sum***** though so that could have contributed.

absolutely, much softer sidewall still than a radial tire, just seems strange to me that some people run them and say they notice no difference at all. Even Ryan told me he was fine driving around on his that way. Made me question other parts of my car.

                  • FWIW... The ET Streets run narrower. 28x12.5x15 has the same tread width as a 28x10.5x15 ET Drag

28x10.5W ET Drags fit on my car with 15x10 w/ 7.5" BS Weld Prostars, and those have 13.1" section width and 10.9" tread width. I did need to do some hammering to the wheel well and remove the bumpstops.

In my opinion, you'll be just fine with the 28x12.5x15 ET Streets as far as fitment but DON'T get them mounted based on my opinion. Instead, why not buy the tires from someone local like McCormack Racing and take the car there with you? I bought my tires/wheels from there years ago and they tend to know what will fit/won't, and in your situation, might be willing to mount one up to test fitment before committing to a size. Even if they cost a few bucks more (which I doubt they will) to me it would be worth the piece of mind of knowing it works before being stuck with a set of tires you can't use.

                    • The shocks are recently new, toted by UMI to be awesome. They are made and tested at their facility in MN.

I got bias ply for the rears because I have a manual and lots of people said not to run a radial in the back on a manual.

Interesting, let us know how you like them. Would you mind sharing pricing on the shocks?

Stick cars are better off using a bias ply, just gotta use bias ply fronts as well is what we are all saying.

What front runners would you recommend then?

                          Coilovers and shocks were 967.
As I said fronts are coilovers with 300lb springs can get other rates, rears are just double adjustable shocks, front are double adjustable also.

Check out UMI site, under springs and shocks.

                          • M/T ET fronts should be fine or similar, it would be worth researching though just to be sure. I know this is not a new issue.

                              • Possibly haha.

More parts arrived. I got a call about setting up a time for a delivery so I don't know if its the Torque Arm or rear end.

Also think I am going to exchange the Front Runners for MT ETs 26x5x15 and the rears for ET Drags 28x10.5x15.
