• You've got me until 1-2ish on saturday.

    • Engine's going in regardless on Saturday, but I still don't know if I'll have headers. The ones I bought are from Troy, but they said they do not do local pickup. So now it will probably take a couple days to ship it to my place in Farmington, when I could just drive 40 minutes and pick them up myself. Grr...

      • That's ok, knowing those headers they'll probably fit differently once in the car, so they'll probably be removed again for clearancing anyway. Not the end of the world.

        • Not going to make it sorry my dude. The family thing last weekend got postponed until this weekend. Sorry man I wish I could help you guys out.

Whats your plans for the rest of the exhaust?

          • I still have the rest of the janky over-the-axle true dual setup there. I'll probably see if a shop is willing to try to make it work with the new headers. Not sure if I can stomach dropping all that money on a totally new exhaust at this point.

            • Painting the driveshaft. Because black >> rust color.

              • Big day today. At last, the day for the engine install. Here's how it went down.

                Got it wheeled into place:

                Got the K-member out:

                Got the engine set up:

                And the Eagle has landed:

All things considered, it actually went relatively smoothly. The only really tough part was getting the AC lines and Power Steering lines to play nice. I also stripped out the thread in the back of the AC compressor where the lines connect, ended up making a run to O'Reilly to get a new one (couple hundred bucks I wasn't planning on spending today). I realize I could've used a helicoil kit to repair the thread, but we were pretty strapped for time, so I decided to bite the bullet. But now it's in, that's a big monkey off my back. Still a looooooooong way to go, but today was a huge step forward.

It should also be noted that birdie2000 is the man. But I'm sure pretty much everybody here already knows that haha. Jim, I seriously can't thank you enough.

                  • Awesome job on getting the engine back in, Peter! Once you're done with this project you'll really be good at wrenching. I didn't know shit prior to my engine swap.

                    • Dude, I've been wrenching on this car for four years now. Not to mention other cars my family, friends, and I have owned. It's not like I never picked up a ratchet before this summer

I'm pretty sure you took that the wrong way...

                        • Finally made some more progress yesterday. Got the driveshaft installed, got the torque arm hooked back up, and I re-coated the headers. Used high-temp powder from Caswell. They didn't turn out great, but I'm well past caring at this point. They're better than they were before, and they're ready to go back in. Hopefully tomorrow.

I did discover one big problem, however. I hooked the shift cable back up, and I found that when I shift the lever into Park, the lever on the transmission doesn't go all the way there out of reverse. Instead of the cable pushing the lever forward, it buckles and bends upward.

                              • I just had a similar problem, except I couldn't get into first. Check the cable housing for damage, mine got pinched sometime between getting it out of the blue car and into the red one. The pinch point cut off about a 1/2" of travel.

New AC Delco cable (used 1 day shipping - Amazon Prime) was just over $43.
