Bummer. If this is the worst that happens, I think you ended up pretty good

Well it got worse...hood flew up on me in the Jeep when I was coming back from O'Reilly's. At least it didn't do any real damage other than bending the hood hinges and damaging the cowl. Windshield's fine though.

I figured out how I'm going to do the coils, just have to use wires for a 5.3 truck.

Moved on to trying to get the harmonic balancer off. Impact isn't strong enough, and I can't get it by myself with a breaker bar and jack handle attached to it so I might have to wait until my dad gets home. Guess I'll just start cleaning things for now.

keep hitting it with the impact periodically, mine was a PITA to get off with it too and our impact it a pos but going forward and back every now and then will help to break it loose.

Well I wasn't able to get the harmonic balancer bolt off so I went and did other things to the car today. Amongst those things were the poly trans mount, I actually painted the floorboards (mostly, ran out of paint), and I installed the shortstick. Lucky for me though my dad is bringing home an ingersoll rand impact, something like 700ft/lbs...the one I was working with today was only 230, so I should be able to get it out tonight. I'll post pics later on tonight, including those of the Jeep in the aftermath of my hood flying up, yes FLYING up on me coming home on M59. Did some damage.

Made some good progress yesterday. Got the new poly trans mount installed, painted part of the floorboards under the car, got the bolts from the motor mounts to the block broke loose, got the harmonic balancer off (though I broke our puller multiple times "made in India"), and I got the timing cover off. I started lowering the oil pan and running the wire for the e-cutout as well. I'll post pics at lunchtime.

What are you painting the floorboards with?

No Mike you should be fine as long as you order the right ones, as in not ones off a truck like I did (thought they were the same) These should work with an fbody: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-Co...Q5fAccessories

Sorry I didn't have pics up today guys, my POS home computer is REALLY slow and pretty much freezes if I keep two windows open at the same time...I'll try posting some in a bit. Got a lot done today though. I dropped the oil pan and swapped out cam and oil pump, got the timing cover back on. Motor mounts are off and I drilled out the rivets tonight. They will be going back in tomorrow. I will also need to modify my spring compressor by welding a bolt to it, then I can get my dual springs on the heads, and then the heads onto the car. Then the rest shouldn't be bad at all. Crossing my fingers it doesn't rain or snow in the next few days.

Well the computer keeps freezing up so here's 3...out of like 40 that I snapped today. Likely won't have any more pics until I get up to school again, which is Sunday night.

Nope not at all, just some usual wear I guess. The new one came with some weird paint stuff on it that was kinda hard to clean off.

Ok so I think I'm having problems with the new pushrods I ordered. I was recommended 7.425" because of the smaller base circle of the new cam. The base circle turned out to be ~.010" smaller than the stock cam and now I think that the 7.425's are too long. When I install the rocker over top of the pushrod it moves the spring a little, probably about a turn until the bolt seats. Though this is on the old gaskets (I was checking ptv and pushrod length). Tomorrow I'm going to put a sparkplug and seal up the cylinder, see if it loses compression through the intake valve.

If it does can I run my stock pushrods for a week or two until I get replacements? Only time I'd be pushing it would be during tuning. Need to get the car done by Sunday because the Jeep is pretty much trashed and I really don't want to drive it on the highway.
