Thanks Nick. I've got 9 days until I'm home so I'm pretty anxious to get started. Doesn't look like the snow'll be gone in time to bring it back up right after spring break, or even get it tuned during but we shall see.
I'm having some pretty bad luck painting the intake though. I went to re-spray it last night and the paint wrinkled Going to try again tonight.
So I got my overlay in today and on the instructions for the vinyl it says to spray soap and water on the adhesive side? I thought they were just stickers.
yeah you'll have to drop it a little to gain access to the bolt, its a pain but completely necessary. Don't worry about the gasket its very rare that they leak, they are made to reuse which is why they are riveted to the pan.
That's pretty cool. I wasn't aware of that.

So I still need to figure out what I'm going to do for a PCV setup. Maybe Spencer will find his way in here and make some suggestions. I've got valvecovers off a 5.3 and the pass. side cover has 1 less port on it...Would it hurt anything if I just routed PCV to a breather filter and capped the intake?

Evap? If you're referring to a carbon canister I'll keep it in there if it's easy enough to do otherwise if it's even easier I'll eliminate it. I'd like to keep the engine bay as clean as possible and eliminate as many vacuum lines as possible. That said is cruise control electric or controlled by vacuum? CC seems absolutely pointless to me with a stick, unless there's absolutely no traffic, which there never is.
Anyways an update from last Sunday night: picked up my parts from my friend's house. Clear on the valve covers turned out pretty crappy but whatever, wetsanding them might help. Intake and coil brackets look great, for the most part. I also knocked the ribs off of the bottom of the intake so I don't have to spend $50 on an aluminum crossover tube and two plugs.

We used cruise control in Craig's car basically the whole way over to the west side, last year, for the M&G.

Thinking about relocating my radio H/U to the glove box or center console to make room for a switch plate...I'll be doing it later on in the summer though if I do.
Alright so, today's epic story:
Woke up this morning, 7am and went to take my bio exam. All went well as I had studied the details of cellular respiration (glycolysis, krebs cycle, oxidative phosphorylation), photosynthesis (photosystem 1,2, and the calvin cycle, and DNA (transcription, translation) not to mention DNA biotechnologies.
So I took the test in 20 minutes including checking my answers over thoroughly. All went well, there were only two questions out of the 50 I didn't really know-I guess studying for hours and hours does help that though.
Went to westview (cafeteria) and had breakfast then went off to DPS to get my parking pass transferred. I got there and realized I didn't have a copy of the registration for my car. "Damnit!" I thought. So great, I had to drive to SOS to get a copy. Only took me 15mins (good thing BR is a small town so there was no line, and 3 ladies working the counter). Got the registration, went back to DPS, got my parking pass transferred. Then I went to the bank to make a withdrawal to pay for parts and other odds and ends. Then began the 3 hour drive home. It was dull overall, though I did happen to see a girl I know on my way back (she lives in the same dorm as me). Undoubtedly I would have felt much more badass if I were in my car and probably would've made a backwards peace sign with my tongue inserted at her (ok, well, probably not).
Before finally arriving home I stop in at O'Reilly's to pick up my timing cover gaskets, 6 quarts of 0w40 mobil 1, dot4 brake fluid, a gallon of coolant, and 8 TR5IX plugs (they didn't have normal TR5's ) oh well I guess I'll just have to live with these iridium plugs...
Got back to the house and moved everything around, got the car in the garage and went to work. As of now I have the airbox, radiator, ac condenser, ac compressor, power steering pump bracket, and water pump all removed. (pics later) I started to get at the intake but realized I don't have fuel line disconnects so I'll have to buy them tomorrow.
After working on the car I was going to go and see my friend's band play at the coffee house where I was going to get on MiFbody and write this but there were no seats or tables available. Then the epic part happened. I got a call from a 313 area code saying my mom's car was broken down at a corner (well, it ended up being white lake PD which still confuses me because of the 313 area code). The officer's waiting there with her and the Mazda's broken down on the corner. Seems like a shot alternator because it died on her when she stopped at the corner and she said the battery light was on. The headlights and radio/ic were getting dim as well. What's even weirder is that it was having problems with overheating a few days ago. My dad replaced the thermostat today thinking it was the cause. Funny part: he worked on it for hours thinking the t-stat was in a different location and when he got to it he couldn't find it, after looking around for a few minutes he realized it was in an entirely different location and it ended up being a 5-minute job. Well, we had to have the Mazda towed to our house which is 3 miles away, for $75! That's $25 a mile...
