  • I know it may seem almost sacrilegious, but I'm SERIOUSLY considering buying the parts and doing the T-Top swap on my car. If there's one thing I miss the most about my Camaro (besides the manual trans), it would have to be the ability to cruise on a beautiful day with the tops out. I kind of enjoy having a hard top, but to be honest, the headliner has already fallen apart, and it's just not worth it to me to bother keeping the hardtop. . . I loved my t-tops, and I'm really struggling to decide as to whether or not to pull the trigger on the swap. . . If I see a good deal on the parts to do it, I'll probably jump on it.

    • I know Dave CHMlEAN (sp?) did the swap, but last time I heard from him he was having leaking problems. I wonder what ever happened to him.

      • Jon did it too. Takes a day and balls of steel but it can be done. Measure 10 times, cut once. Lots of How To's out there. If I were you, I would do it. Makes the car 10x more fun in the summer.

That's why I'm seriously thinking of doing it. People always tell me "Don't hack apart your hardtop, there are too many T-Top F-Bodies out there, hardtops are rare", but honestly, I've seen the numbers, T-Top cars were FAR rarer in '93 than Hardtops were. Besides, I don't plan on selling my car ever, so I kind of want to be able to enjoy it. I'll do the 6-speed swap eventually, I just can't afford it right now. I should have a pretty stout LT1 car after I'm done installing my parts in a couple weeks, then I can start on the body work.

          • I'd swap it over to TTops in a heartbeat. I would of done it years ago to the Camaro but my plans for it call for as stiff of a car as I can get.

All depends on the cost of the parts. I've seen people do it for $100 and I've seen people do it for like $700. Depends on if you want to shop around for parts or jump on the first set of ttops you find.

I'm hoping to get mine done for around $100. I don't mind not having a headliner for a while, I'm about to start mocking up my overhead console, so the current headliner (or what's left of it) will be out soon. It's falling apart really bad, I won't put it back in. I'll clean up the inside of the roof before I'll reinstall that ratty-looking POS.

                  • I need to ask a quick question. . . What's the best way to mount my cutout? I was thinking of just using the band clamps I have to clamp it to the ORY and the cat-back, but I thought I would ask first. I didn't want to weld it in just yet, and I'm pretty sure I'm just going to clamp the exhaust to the y-pipe to prevent any issues if/when I may need to remove any of it. Just wondering how you guys did it or would recommend that I do it.

                    • You could do it either way - no different than joining any other two pieces of exhaust together.

I think I may actually weld it to the y-pipe, then just clamp the rest of the exhaust to the back of it, that way I won't have to worry about leakage from any of the clamps. . . Not to mention, the y-pipe is going to be connected to the headers with clamps, so I really want to minimize the number of potential leaks in the system. I'm going to be replacing the cat-back eventually anyways, I'm going to use the one currently on the car after the header install, so hopefully I don't run into any problems doing that. I can honestly say that the cutout is going to be open about 90% of the time I'm driving the car though. . . That's the beauty of electric cutouts with hidden switches. . . I can flip a switch to turn the volume down. lol

                        • There's a small recessed area under the rear pass. side seat where I mounted mine. Anywhere else seems to give a clearance issue. I've got my cutout Y welded to the cat back and another pipe welded to it, which is clamped with an adapter to the Y pipe. I'll post a pic in a bit.

                            • like vinnie said, put your cutout aiming to the rear passenger side by the passenger side seat hole. This way you can run the electric wire up through the rubber grommet below the front passenger seat and then under the center console to wherever you mount it. There really isn't any other good spot to tuck it so that you keep clearance. This is where my cutout is, and it is acctually welded to my I pipe just after my ORY.
