  • [Project] 454 LSX build in my 2001 Trans Am

I just joined and this build started about a year ago.

    Heres a before pic

The first bit of this thread will be catching up to where I currently am (still in pieces)

List of stuff that I have:

    Stock LS7 Heads
    STRIKER Cam 244/256 ~.670 lift 110 LSA
In Motion LS2 DR Timing Set
    TSP Ported Oil Pump
    ARP LS7 Head Bolt Kit
    Underdrive Pulley
    FAST 92mm Big Mouth TB
    LS7 Intake
    LS7 Fuel Rails
    SLP Lid
    MSD Pulg Wires
    Kooks 2" Race Headers
    QTP 3-1/2" Electric Cutout
QTP 3" Electric Cutout (For the Borla Adj. Catback)
Wolfe 10pt Jig Notched Roll Cage (Cut down to a 8pt, lol )
    Black Carpet Set

These are all the parts that i need to finish it:

HKE 454 LSX Shortblock (Almost done/Owe a few hundred still)
    Spohn Solid Motor Mounts
    LS7 or Morel Lifters
    Harland Sharp Rebuilt LS7 Rockers
    LS7 Pushrods
    Kooks 3-1/2 OFY

These are the parts that I hope to get in the next few months:

    Borla Adj. Catback
    Get my LS7 intake ported
    Moser 9" Wavetrac w/ 4.56 gears and 35sp axles
    Spohn Adj. PHB
    UMI LCA Relocation
    Spohn Boxed LCA
    UMI 3pt SFC
    Spohn Pro-Series Drag Sway Bar
    Spohn Adj. Torque Arm

^^^^This is just s quick list off the top of my head. so im probably missing stuff.

I am looking for a real show quality build, that i can and will drive everyday.

When I first started... I stripped the car down, and got to work, welding in my cage.

Then i put down a layer(or more in some places) of Raamat

    Pulled the motor

Here you can see what I started with in the engine bay, you can see the stretched metal on the strut tower, the weird divets on the CC module that I no longer have, and some other things, that look... out of place.

I will be relocating the computer inside. The battery will go to the back.
The fuses will be under the dash. I started working on that a little.

I will be deleting ABS (along with basically everything else i can) and adding LL and a PV, these will be mounted on the frame rail somewhere.
New lines will be custom bent so there out of the way.
Id like to run braided fuel lines

    Got some seam welding done.

Made it this far with the interior... and then decided didnt want a black cage... (Now I want it black, but im not changing it.)

Then I ran my wiring harness through my fender. But now its going under my dash

    Then I wrapped the headliner...

I also pulled the rear end, and everything else from the bottom of the car, and laid on a heavy coat of underbody coating

Oh yea... and i painted my rearend pink.

Then I cut the front part off the cage, then had to bondo, a little, and then re-paint... Though dont like the color.. Its staying.

Here is after a bit of bondo work on the pass side strut tower.

I also pulled the car out and washed off the dust and overspray in November, ( I had to clean the garage, and re-organize for winter)

Here is the current pile of STOCK parts that need to go back on. (Still looks the same)

The cage...(I wanted a darker grey, but apparently if youre rattle canning it, you cant be picky...)

Theres my lanky ass. Picture taken by a "friend" haha

As you can see the LS7 fits in there quite well

I got the last two filler panels welded in. So now i get to work on bondo for awhile.

Looks great so far!! I can't believe how much attention to detail there is here, as already mentioned. It's going to be a great looking car when it's finished! Any HP/TQ estimates for the 454?

I JUST ADDED PICS OF MY UNDERBODY, AND MY PINK REAREND

              Thanks a lot

Yea, I figure the LS7 deserves the best engine bay, I can give it.

Its having alot of downtime right now, but I plan on making up for that, and driving the shit out of the car when its back on the road.

Road trips galore, I forgot to mention, that I would like to do a 49 state road trip in it.

              Thanks Nick,

Im just trying to put my best foot forward.

I was looking for ~620/580 at the wheels

but without the ported heads and intake

Probably around 580/550 at the wheels

Its got one hell of a cam in it

Great job soo far. The attention to detail will defiantly separate ya from everyone else. you have always been great at that.
you might need to put a caution sticker in the car so when someone gets in and you start that sucker up it wont give them "shaken baby syndrome"

Thank you! I want to do a full re-spray (something brighter/lighter)

I was thinking about doing a CETA clone, or an orange similar to SOM.
