    • Depends on his luck... Kolin has been putting 560 NA power to the wheels for the last year and hasn't popped it. Stock 3.42 rear end behind a T-56. And that NA power has to be harder on it than a turbo.

He has a few things going for him. Low profile street tires and low profile street tires. It just depends on what you wanna do with the car. 1 or 2 6K rpm launch's with a tire at the track and it would be scattered. If you wanna drag race a T56 car I don't think a lot of people realize what a beating the drivetrain takes to get them to be quick. Driving them around on the street is no problem. Anything much over 300hp is just spin city.

Looking forward to this build. I like turbos

        • Thanks for the support fellas. I really want it to be a fun street car that sees the track 1 or 2 times a summer.

          • Oh, and random tidbit. If you decide you need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, stay away from the direct-fit one that Aeromotive sells for LT1s. There's been a lot of instances over the years of them being unreliable.

            • Damn this thread is so full of awesome news!! Its putting thoughts in my head about turbo! Maybe we should side by side build turbo LT1's since are cars have seemed to be side by side in mods lol

                • Is Jegs and Summit the best places to look for internals?

How do these connecting rods look?

                  Couldn't find any pistons.

Also, what bearings do I go with?
                  Rings?

                    • How long do you guys think stock rods would last?

I'm trying to figure out how far I want to take this build. If I do forged pistons and forged rods why not go forged crank?
I want this to be on the road in a realistic amount of time. If I end up doing the whole bottom end forged, I won't be done with this until next winter at best. Next winter as in JAN/FEB 2016.

Suggestions? Lets say I do end up just doing pistons and throw a rod or spin a bearing, what am I out? Labor and a couple hundred bucks?

                      • Eh, I have no real basis for saying this, but I wouldn't trust the stock rods. I'm sure it's been done, in fact I'm nearly sure I've heard of in this application, but I just wouldn't want to risk it. I still say for FI buy the best bottom end you can afford and worry about the rest of the engine later. It's the hardest/most time consuming thing to change in the future.

Then again, I'm good at spending other people's money lol.

                        • I would get the engine together, get the turbo on it, and get it running/driving on 5-7psi. Use next summer to sort out bugs/upgrade parts that are needed for your goals. You get to drive a boosted car next year, and you reach your goals in 2 years tops with minimal down time. You need to keep project creep at bay, and the best way to do that is with a car that you can drive. It gets real easy to shoot for the moon when the car is down.

I am definitely looking forward to this build

                          • ^ Agreed. A stock engine will take 5-7psi. Get it together, get all the bugs sorted out, and figure out how far you want to take it from there.

                            • So just a stock rebuild with some nice forged pistons and arp rod and mains, .030 over. Assuming everything checks out?

Thanks for the help fellas. All of this forced induction is new to me.

                              • your not that far from doing it right to start with forged pistons rods and crank, 4 bolt mains inline bore on mains. Then you have a good base not half a$$ together. anything you do from there can be done without pullin the motor. If you go the other route and through a rod or spin a bearing your now into more cost rod could go through the block etc etc.
