Sorry you even had to make a thread like this. Red Alert better be at the M&G! I'm sure we could all flip you a few bucks and you could bring it on a flatbed.

Sorry dude, it's almost a guarantee the car will not be done in time for the M&G as much as I wish it weren't the case.

Sorry to hear about your car, I was looking forward to seeing it.
Everything I have read about the LT1s is they are Trouble, I hate to ask but have you concidered going LSX or back to old style motor? I know you can pick up a Complete 5.3l for under $1000.
Just a thought.Fred

He really cant switch now, he has a lot invested in this and this is what he wants. It sounds like a little more work and a little more cash and he will have Red Alert back on the raod with even a little more balls then intended! Hang in there B!Originally posted by braile View PostSorry to hear about your car, I was looking forward to seeing it.

I'll have to check and see if it was still an issue after we fixed the VSS sensor. The car was driving b-e-a-utifully (except for stalling when it slowed down which coincidentally is what you're talking about) but it seemed like a lot of the transmission DTCs were cleared up from fixing the VSS.Originally posted by 1BADAIR View Postlike I said it the other thread. I am concerned about the TCC code. if the TC clutch wasn't unlocking it will pull the engine rpm down when you slow or stop and can cause engine damage from low rpm
Really? I wouldn't say LT1s are trouble at all. The problem that I ran into was really unrelated to the fact that it was an LT1 and could have happened to any motor.Originally posted by braile View PostSorry to hear about your car, I was looking forward to seeing it.

I'll have to make sure and let my dad know. I haven't had the time to touch the engine since Sunday night. Yesterday dad straightened the garage up a lot but I'm not sure what his plans were for today.Originally posted by 9T8W66 View PostHey guys just to let you know if your doing further disassembly make sure you keep rod caps with their correct rod and mark them by what cylinder they came out of.
Amen to that. I love the LT1. Getting power out of an LS1 is easy but everything for it is more expensive. LT1 is cheaper and more fun.Originally posted by Darrenscamaro View PostHe really cant switch now, he has a lot invested in this and this is what he wants. Not to mention, converting to an LS1 would have been a lot more work than putting the LT1 in there because of the wiring differences.

damn B.. i cried a little when i seen all the pics.. sorry its taken so long to see this.
i didnt read all the posts.. bu t i see that you are having a hard time parting with the Cam that you invested in.
talking from experince .. pull it.. and get a new one.. or send it back to Comp and have it checked throughly. personally. while you got it all apart no use rushing things.. and build a nice motor.. i garuntee that you have about a 15% chance of leaving that cam in and nothing happening. the last thing you want and or need, is to put a couple dimes into the bottom end of that motor now and slap it together leave the cam unchecked. and have this happen again.. its disheartening. it really is.. cause you just end up spending double the money with double the heartache.
dont cobble stuff together just to get it done by a date that really isnt that great of importance. i know u want it to be at the M & G but man.. its just not worth it..
i left a cam and a set of lifters in cause i couldnt afford it and wanted to race on saturday night a couple years back. got out went to take the green and bottom end let go. the came was shattered as well as 3 lifters. had i waited like 2 weeks i could have went out the rest of the season n finished it out. but i didnt and the car sat for weeks before i could throw another 3 k into a new motor.

Would the engine shop be able to check it over and make a decision on whether it's good or not?- Brian Meissen

roller cams don't have a break in time or anything cause there is no normal wear with them. just check all the lopes and journals for any nicks or anything. for this reason you can switch cams and such without replacing lifters.
if there is a slight scratch or anything a machine shop would most likely be able to polish it very easily
A flat tappet cam requires break-in, zinc oil(cause the cam is a wear item) and the lifters MUST stay with the same lope no matter what.Last edited by 1BADAIR; April 28th, 2009, 05:09 PM.
