  • I just went out and removed the 15mm bolt from the driver side and found all 3 ground wires attached securely, I reattached them and the car fired right up but then it died backing it onto the lift because I didn't 2 foot it. After that we tried to start it and it backfired a couple of times and shot flames out the headers. Any ideas on what may be happening? We didn't seem to have this problem the first time we started the car up a few weeks ago but now we are.

          • Im guessing since it sat without a battery the computer has to relearn idle. Now im not sure how long it ran for but my untuned car takes FOREVER to figure its idle and warm starts out. Could just need to learn a little more. Sounds tune related reguardless, not sure what else it could be?

And you just did the rear main right? Wow, that blows. Im going to have some free time next week and have to take my car to phil maybe i can stop by and help for a while if you need it.

EDIT: just thought of something, are you sure its not the oil pressure sending unit leaking, then running down the back cover? Ive heard of it before.

            • I will check the oil pressure sending unit tomorrow morning but I am 99% sure its not it because you cannot see any rundown at all and thats what was suspected last time when I replaced the rear main. The only thing I have to say about it is that the oil must get on the flexplate because my starter and header on the passenger side have oil spatter on them because of me not having the dust shield on. The oil that leaked out was considerably much less than last time and the oil and coolant leaks only occur when the car is running.

              • Could have been just a defective seal?

                      • Hang in there Jeff, I can feel your frustration. Both B and I, but take a deep breath man, and tomorrow is another day. I have a hard time thinking that rear seal is leaking.

You can't afford anything, so shut up. Maybe you need to take a couple days, forget about the car, and start on it again in a few days Jeff. That always seems to kinda clear my head and calm me down.

                            • did you use loctite or teflon on the flexplate bolts?

                              • Yeah guys it is VERY frustrating at this point, I am honestly considering paying a shop to do it and being done because obviously if it is the rear main seal I don't know how to put it on or am doing it incorrectly. Also Spencer the only other thing back there that could be leaking is the oil pan gasket, which is brand new, and the oil plug in the back of the crank but that was bone dry in there the last time.

Larry I used some red loctite on the flexplate bolts, I am pretty sure.
