285/75R16. They're the AT KO2; don't know if the KO2 makes a difference, but they're nicer looking that the old version (more aggressive sidewall).

Compared to the Cooper Discover ATP in 265/75R16, the BFGs are not good. I know they're bigger and wider, but they've always had a steering wobble on some roads at low PSI, and no grip even with lower PSI. They're horrible grip wise when aired up to 50psi, but the steering wobble goes away. They've been like this since new. I only put about 7k miles a year on it, so they might have 24-30k miles on them now; I'd have to check. They wear like iron from what I can tell. They don't look like they've ever worn down at all. I chalked it up to going to 285, but it really is massively worse. I almost NEVER used 4WD with the Coopers, but I do constantly with the BFGs. Funny thing is, they're also noisier, which I never would have guessed. They're still quiet for an AT, but louder than the Coopers. The Coopers also always balanced and rode perfectly. *shrug*

My truck came with brand new BFG Long Trails in 2004. Those were horrific too, but they also looked like trailer tires compared to most other tires. I thought these would at least be better than those, but they're actually comparable in snow or rain, from what I recall. i.e. Having to use 4WD to get out the the neighborhood, tires spinning at traffic lights, etc... Very similarly frustrating.

Actually, no, these are okay in snow. Better than the Long Trails for sure, but worse than the Cooper Discoverers. Like the Long Trails, they're terrible on ice though. Sticky snow, the type that will pile up in front of the front tires, with get these tires stuck too. I had to use 4WD in a nasty slush storm last year (probably 6" of mushy slush), and the truck was going sideways the whole time.

They're great in dirt and mud though!

Odd - the KO2 is always considered to be one of the best A/T tire out there, and the Tire Rack ratings back that up - based on 9.3 million reported miles.

I've never had a KO2, those weren't out when i had my last half ton. I had KOs and loved them. They offered what felt like double the traction of the stock tires in all conditions, including snow. The same thing you describe about always using 4wd with the stock tires, and then never needed again once I had the BFGs. I'm not sure that I've ever had a bad experience with a BFG tire.

I've really been a fan of the Cooper AT3's lately. Cheap, wear well, and perform well enough for my needs. I wish the sidewall wasn't quite so cheesy, but it's tolerable.

I almost got Coopers when I got the 17s for this truck. Ended up with Federals and I'm not sure if it was a good decision or not yet. I bought them when i wasn't sure if i was going to restore the truck or not yet.... had i known, I'dve probably spent a little more. The federal is a very hit or miss tire depending on the size, some sizes explode other sizes wear like iron. (I have one of the good sizes). So far i had a little bit of a balance issue when they were new but once they wore in a little they smoothed out and they have otherwise been great. They worked well on the sand dunes.

They look great. I saw your truck a few months ago at Home Depot up on 26 mile before you tore it down. It really looked great in person!

I ran General Grabber AT's on the Expedition and have them on the wife's Liberty. Both sets wore well. Sold the Expedition tires had 40k and still looked brand new. Wife's Liberty has 2 yrs and about 35k on them and still like new. They have the same tread pattern as the BFG AT/KO's at 2/3rds the price.

Ran those on a KJ as well and had good results. I liked them.

The new Grabber AT/X is #1 in On/Off-Road All-Terrain tire ratings. General usually puts out a very impressive tire for about $5.

I believe General is owned by BFG, but I agree their ATs are good tires.

Continental, as of '87 it seems.

Youre right. And I should have known that because now I remember getting a discount on Generals when I worked at Conti.

I put a set of Generals on my Express van a year or so back. They have been excellent. Will be looking at Generals for the T/A when the time comes. Yes, Continentals owns General. Michelin owns BFG (and needs to up their game).
