  • A few more parts moved out yesterday.

And I started moving out and cleaning some of the sheet-metal.

This battered and abused 18" or so shortened Charger hood was a freebee from a Moparts member. Picked it up at Carlisle, and our third gen. Charger forum member Bob let us use his shop to shorten it (so it would fit in my vehicle). But there are pieces of the hood inner structure intact that I need to repair another hood, so it has value.

The cleaning crew was back today, and they helped me move the rest of the sheet-metal and some other items into temporary storage. With the attic now emptied out, there are two stacks of "stuff" to go through, then the interior of the garage is official cleaned out. Restoration crew will deal with the rest. Cleaning crew thinks they will be done on Thursday.

    • Man, with everything out it really shows just how much the smoke damaged the walls.

      • Indeed.I watched a few videos right after this happened. You can expect similar smoke damage even behind things attached to the wall, like the cabinets. Certainly behind the peg board and benches. So it easily got behind boxes and things leaning against the wall.

Had to be in the office today, and again tomorrow. One thing from yesterday that I didn't mention is that while working in the attic getting the last few things out of there, a board I was stepping on broke, and I broke through the drywall. Fell between the trusses, down to my hips, caught myself on either side by my elbows and forearms. Pretty sore today, especially my right elbow and forearm. Too damn old to be crawling around up there. The ceiling was being replaced anyway, but embarrassing after 30 years and a hundred trips in and out of that space to have an accident in the last 10 minutes of being up there, ever. I've promised myself I will not put things up there again. I'm done crawling in attics.

        • At least it was your own attic - I fell through my old neighbor's garage ceiling.

Absent-mindedly stepped back onto not-a-joist and went right through, but thankfully had the wherewithal to be holding onto the upper joists, so I didn't get far. I also came out of this same attic with blood running down my face (of which I was not aware until I saw the look on his wife's face) as I whacked the back of my head on a roofing nail.

It happens to the best of us! Pretty sure my dad went through the ceiling at their house, and he was someone who had been in thousands of attics.

          • About 98% cleaned out now, though some of that is an illusion. The container is full of stuff from the attic that I have to go through, and car parts that I have to 1) ship because I sold them 2) clean and store in the back garage 3) clean and move to the storage unit with the Cordoba (a possibility for some of the bigger sheet-metal parts) or 4) write off as a total loss. Another long weekend of sorting, cleaning, packing and moving is ahead.

            • You might need to get yourself a new set of blinds.

At least the upcoming weekend is much nicer than that trash we had earlier in the week. It actually snowed again here today, albeit briefly.

              • The blinds are another interesting thing to study. Heavily melted at the top, not at all at the bottom. You can see the "line" above which the temperature was hot enough to melt those individual slats.

                • Interesting indeed - heat certainly rises, but when you're talking about fire, it's hotter near the source, which was on the ground. That makes it quite odd!

                  • Super busy at work (just signed off the company computer at 10pm) and with the garage (they moved all my stuff into the container, now they want to haul the container away on Friday...no way I have it cleaned out by then). Interior of the house was painted today, se we wanted to go out. Perfect timing...Lake Orion Culver's first 2021 cruise night was tonight. Perfect!

It was PACKED! I'm in the new "overflow" across the street. Never seen so many cars there. Sort of what my brother and I had thought things would be...after a year on lock down, things are going be nuts when we can finally get out.

                    • It really was the absolute perfect night for it. Man, things being that close together give me a bit of anxiety anymore, but at least it's outside and from the pics it looks like most people are distancing at least.

What's up with the line of lifted cars? They look like some kind of pre-donk, minus the rims.

                      • Sort if is pre-donk I guess. I had never seen this done to a car until I moved to Michigan. I should be asking you what's up with that! Some sort of club I guess, with all of them together. Not a look that I'm into, but to each his own.

You'll have to get that Z28 up and running for the season and bring it out some Tuesday afternoon.

                        • I mean donks are popular across the country, but definitely have a large presence in the Pontiac/Detroit area. I'm not a huge fan of them, as I hate stupidly large wheels, but you cannot deny that the vast majority of those cars are clean as hell and generally are built well, too. They tend to have built engines too, so I can absolutely appreciate that...not like something stupid like the "stanced" vehicles or "Carolina Squat" trucks/SUVs that seem to be spreading like an STD.

And yeah, that would be great - we're not all that far. You know...if I ever get my SFCs (which have the rear bushings I need).

                          • Yeah, these are early versions of that I guess, with standard size wheels, but big tires.

It just bother the tech in me to see the crazy suspension geometry. If you are going to off-road it, then it makes sense. Otherwise, it does nothing beneficial for the vehicles performance...it's all about the look. I think the is ugly, and I'm all about mods that do something to help the vehicle perform in some way. So it's just not for me.

Still swamped at work, but did get good news on the container today. Pick up is delayed until middle of next week, so I now have some time to do what I need to do.

                            • Oh, I'm entirely with you there - I'm all about lowering a car with the intention of improving handling performance, because turning is a blast. But at the very least, the cars themselves are usually really nice, if you ignore the gaudy giant wheels, terrible ride/driving qualities and turning radius worse than the Titanic.

However, you have to admit, it's significantly better than this garbage that has been popping up...which seemingly is even worse:

The donk drivers also tend to be much nicer and more respectful to those around them. From what I've seen, the drivers of the above are usually just *******s.

                              • There are a lot of pickups and big SUV’s down here with that ass dragging stance. I don’t know how they can see down the road not to mention how they must react in an emergency maneuver.
