Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

ok thanks a lot. I hope that goes the same for me. I am having Joel buff it out this winter so I am sure that he will get it looking good again once they are off.

How do you like it without the moldings?
you'll love it!! Really depends how much the car has been in the sun as to the amount of paint fade once you remove the trim.. But I am sure Joel can work his magic(if needed)..
I like it a lot! You know the designers at GM hated having to stick those things on there. They labored over the lines of this car for thousands of hours, then in the end had to stick some safety rail down the side. I see it as paying tribute to them And it looks much better. Very corvette ZR1 like

why does everyone keep saying that on this website? I've seen it removed from cars with over 100K miles and it is not faded at all.. In fact, my old v6 had about 110k on it before I removed the moldings, it looked PERFECT underneath,(it just takes a lot of elbow grease to get all the glue residue off). My only concern is if the prior owner was lazy and did not remove the moldings before repainting.. if that were the case then obviously there would be lines where the moldings were. I've never heard of anyone pulling paint up with the moldings either, but I guess if the paint is in bad enough shape, anything would be possible..

I am having Joel detail out the car this winter so if there are any areas that need a little love im sure he will take care of it!
Fred, that is a very interesting fact that I didnt know about.
If Larry has it done on his car, its good enough for me!
any idea what is the best way to get it off? I have heard to use fishing line? what do you use to clean the glue off?

On my firebird I used fishing line and then prep o sol solvent for the goo, fishing line cuts through the adhesive instead of pulling against the paint, but my brother's came off better by just pulling it off on a really hot day.

Shouldn't you be able to tell if it's faded at all by comparing the door jamb to the paint...on the body?
Eh probably not with the way the shadows/light would hit the two surfaces on different planes, unless it was super faded. I'm sure you'll be fine Ryan. A good rub and wax tho is key. They did that after a full wet-sand on my car. orange peel
I hope so Fred. The car just turned 60k miles and it had been taken care of well. For some reason, I have like no orage peel. I think the original owner (who I bought it from) had it detailed out on a regular basis.
I cant wait to see it after these mods. I am doing a few other visual things to it. I need to start my own "project" thread and stop hijacking yours
I just "yanked" mine right off my old camaro But Heat gun may be useful to help get the glue warm to get the moldings off... But I would just send the car over to Mr. Joel and let him do it
I can get it done myself. I am pretty anal when it comes to these things. Joel is gonna be buffing out my car tho, I seen his colorado and I was sold!!
my car is edging 140k and there was no difference when i pulled the side moldings, and i know for a fact the pass die was hit with some paint after an ******* hit my parked car at the mcc lot.
