I don't know how people can do that, I research something to death before putting down my hard earned dollars. Hell, it took me 2 months to pick out a damn snowblower.

Why would you need one with a 4x4 Dakota? Save it for a 9 inch??Originally posted by WMCCjames View PostI don't know how people can do that, I research something to death before putting down my hard earned dollars. Hell, it took me 2 months to pick out a damn snowblower.

Theres a guy around me
That has like a 454 or something like that bored out of a lt1 motor its retarded. The car is a old chevy hot rod chopped forget what year. But the thing is stupidly fast man. I didn't know we had room to mount a turbo in the front like that. weirdsigpic Im Gonna Party Like A Rock Star, Hit A Bunch Of Strip Bars, Wake Up Naked In A Hotel Room, Through My TV Out The Window, Smoke A Bunch Endo Cause Tonight Im Wanted Dead Or Alive

I've never seen a LT1 larger than 396 cubes before. Your turbo kit will easily make your horsepower goal on a 383. Good luck with the build, take some more pics of that turbo kit.

Ha, you're really taking one for the team there James!Originally posted by WMCCjames View PostLol....3 times I had to hook up a tow strap to my girlfriends car last winter to drag it up my driveway....that's why. Gotta keep the girl happy Matt.
Back to the motor,
what part of the crank will hit the cam? couldn't you use a 5.7 rod and cut down the counterweights a little?

Well after all most shooting my self.lol. I just wrote the guys back and see if i can do a swap for a 3.8 or 3.85 stroke crank.Originally posted by Superman09 View PostI suggest having someone do the shortblock for you. Its a lot of work to build your own and you need to have the block machined and the assembley balanced, etc etc.
So this is the thing . the 4 inch stroke is in the grage right now. unopened and all.
1. Should i just pay the money to make it work? i dont mind custom pistons
2. Will the 1pc crank work in side of ( or bettter)a tbi 350 or late 70's carb 350? We have a carb 350 in the old school 1947 out of a truck and a 1987 tbi 350ci in a turck.
3. leave grage and see whats next?
I would like to use the crank. I dont realy no what u mean by a small circle cam. i am guessing low lift. so what u mena by that?Last edited by Camaroe3; December 7th, 2007, 11:34 PM.1993 Camaro

WEll i did my home work on the motor set up for the most part. I found some rods and a company that could get me some custom Dish pistons like srp, je and etc brand for under $100 a piston. Also I new the block we need some clearing. my thing was now if the stroke would have the piston poping out the whole a lil bit.
I have the lt1 in the car. I was just realy planing on the stock lt1,k member and turbo be installed for now. then some time after every thing is mocked up and runing then have the short block done, Hot parts jet hot coated, and etc.
If the crank will work. that would be nice. I mean its a 408 spooling a turbo
. I dont need a nasty cam .

I notice their is not a price next to all them things.
I was thinking stock intake 58mm tb
egale h beam 6.0 rods w/L19 bolts
copper headed steal gaskets
stock cast iron heads
4 bolt splayed mains
somthing more along them lines. You think you can do something along them lines. Also I was not thinking electric water pump. i hear those are not good ideas for lt1 motors .1993 Camaro

First of all a small base circle cam means that literally the base circle is small so you dont hit your cam with a rod.
Now with your set up...
In my opinion your asking for a lot of trouble! Like VRE tried to point out theres some pretty good reasons you don't see too many 400+ CI LT1's, reasons such as destroying your block. What kind of shape is your block in? did it have a lot of miles on it? As for the rods personally I wouldn't feel very comfortable grinding on them. And at the end of the day on top of all the many ways you could get screwed, you want to boost like theres no tommorow. If i were you i would look into a more proven and reliable set up, such as a 383 or a 396. Just tryin to look out for ya bro!!

-Stock intake will work for a while, but in higher horsepower application you will notice the rear two cylinders running lean using that manifold. The Air Gap is suppose to be a little better, and the only real fix is going to a single plain manifold.
-Eagle rods are ok, but for just about the same price you can get Compstar rods. The Compstars have a smaller "shoulder" and require less clearancing on the block.
-Cometic MLS gaskets work well, but you need to make sure you prepare the surface to a finish of 50 RA (roughness average) or finer, so they properly seal. Anything rougher may conflict with the gasket design.
-Are you atleast going to port the stock heads? We have make upwards of 550rwhp with stock unported heads, and we plan on trying to make 700rwhp or so with the newly installed YSI blower and fmic. Unfortunately we don't have any test results yet, so I don't know for sure if they are going to flow enough.
-4 bolt splayed main caps is a good idea
-We have used electric water pumps on more LT1 engines then the stock mechanical and have no problems. Some people don't like to use them, because they are conceren it will fail and leave them stranded. I feel they are fine and wouldn't hesitate to use it on your project. Also if you want to use a double roller timing set with the stock pump it will cost you around $300 or so. If you want to use a double roller with a electric water pump it is $279, so when you think about it you get 2 new parts for less money then 1.
