  • 408 lt1 helo

    WEll i am going to start getting my block put together.

    I have a 1995 lt1 motor

    and Eagale esp 4" stroke 4340 crank.

    The thing is i need rods and pistons and a good cam

    I was thinking some custom -31cc dish and a 6inch rod.

    How tall is the deck on a lt1?

    Will the piston be above the deck?

    what rod you think i should run?

    the plan is still a 75mm turbo on a 408ci lt1 8.8-9.0:1 CR with the th400 .

    So far the motor is on the lift with the motor braced in with the stock k member out. I still have to go down and bolt in the tube k member .

    coming soon ( just ask)

    home made S400 frount mount turbo on the way

    397ci 9:1

        4340 crank, sbc 1pc

        I order the lt1 crank from cnc-proformace a lil while back

          i guess i have to read up on what that actually means. i read LT1 tech forums all the time and ive never heard of a 408 LT1 (using the stock LT1 block). impressive!

            408 = 4.030 bore x 4.0 inch stroke

            396 = 4.030 bore x 3.875 inch stroke

            43534000600:
            4340 Material
            350 mains
            4 inch stroke
            6 inch rod

            Maybe VictoryRacing can tell us why they offer a 396 and not a 408?

              Well i just read this

              "Eagle SBC 4340 4" stroke crank, this is a 1 pc seal crank, standard main and rod journals. Standard 2.1 rod journals, 2.45 main journals. This is made to go into a late modem 1987 to 1997 350 block, there is extensive clearancing required, but the use of lightweight rods, require less grinding. You can also use SIR rods, with a small base circle cam and there is less blocks clearance required. "

              So how much you think that block work is going to run? and what happened to that shop that was in clinton or waren?

                Anything bigger than a 383 or at most a 396 isn't worth it due cost ad complexity of the build. You will definietly need a custom SMALL base circle cam to clear, a good block with no core shift and the ability not to hit a water jacket when you clearance the block. The extra couple of cube isn't really worth it in our opinion.

                    I suggest having someone do the shortblock for you. Its a lot of work to build your own and you need to have the block machined and the assembley balanced, etc etc.

                        I think your insane!!
                        The machine work alone for a 383 is about 1000-1100
                        The extra work you should just do a LSX motor

                          If i was you, I would just build a 383, If you do the 408 You could run into some problems that your not expecting.
