The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. And yes weight is definitely a concern however i consider suspension a core component and if thats one place where weight needs to be then so be it. Id rather cut weight from the body and other non essentials.
Jon has been talking to Carl at CRP. We're both leaning toward the s60 at this point and that is what he is suggesting as well. Still a few more bits and pieces i want to research before i pull any triggers.
S60 means i have to decide between 3.73 and 4.10. The straightline side of me wants the 4.10 for obvious reasons. The road race side of me doesnt want to be doing semi truck gear changes in the apex of a corner. I think its splitting hairs but heh.
Jon's S60 with S-trac and tapered bearings is ordered. Should be delivered in 3 weeks, I'll post updates. He went with a 3.73 gear, I'm going to use his car to decide whether 3.73 or 4.10 is best for mine.
With the 9" you could order 3.90 - or you could just go with 4.11 then build another 3rd member cheap with 3.73 or lower.
The only thing that sucks about swapping 3rd members is the diff and case are so f'ing heavy. Damn thing weighs 90lb+. I'm tempted to go to a spool to save 45lbs of rotating mass.
i recall a quote that someone once had in their sig. . . . .it had something to do with the idea that a 10 bolt is more useless than a wooden log. . .because you can at least burn the log
Someone needs to start building 8.8's for a decent price. There is a huge market and once you get setup to do it the time and cost would go down. This thread has intrigued me and my dad to look into it.
once there are funds and time available, this is my next project. . . . . dear joelio, i NEED you to continue to research this so i have a solution when the time comes.
