  • Rear End Gears

Looking to get my T56 swapped in shortly, and decided then would be a good time to change the out the rear-end gears from 2:73's. At first i wanted to go all out to 4:10's but i actually want to use first gear
So what are you guys running?

4.11s. It's not like a T56 has that steep of a 1st gear so they work well with a taller gear out back.

        315/35/17s out back, I'm a hair over 2000 at 75. You can cruise in 5th at 55.

            Compare 6th gear of a T56 to 4th of a 60e. .5 vs .69. Overdrive in the 60e is pretty close to 5th in the T56.

So really 4:10's wouldnt be bad for a daily driver?
first probably ends at around 10mph?
Do you have a stock flywheel or lightweight?

Theres really no reason to go anything less than 4.11s on a 6 speed unless you have a turbo. I WAS using an aluminum flywheel.

does the 0.01 make that big of a difference?
at with the aluminum flywheel first wasnt horrible?

No it was butter with the Spec 2+ I had. It wasn't as fun with a Spec stage 3 though. And yes the .01 does make a difference. It turns the gearset into a hunting gearset, and they wear better.

                      Rear End Gears

Where can I find nice 4:11s? I've only seen 4:10s but then again I haven't looked very hard. And I'll have a centerforce dual friction with aluminum fly wheel.

                          http://www.f-body.org/gears/

                          1st gear with a 4.10 at 5700rpm is 40mph.

                          6th gear with a 4.10 at 70mph is 1900rpm.

Good question. They might, depending on who makes it. I think Yukon has a thick gear 4.11...

I know that the 3.42 from my 2000 Jimmy is NOT the same gear as the 3.42 from a 97 Camaro 42-13 vs 41-12
