My old neighbour helped me pick the colour as a favour. We were going to choose grey, but it changed the whole flavour of the appearance. I paid him the first installment by cheque, and he let me pay the rest when he is done, on my honour. When it gets back to my shop I will savour the odour of the new paint, and hope it doesn't give me a tumour. I really hope you can see the humour here.

Some updates of the work in progress. I apologize for the blurry photos, it's pretty dark in his shop where he is doing the body work...

Driver's side rear quarter - he is going to have to take it out right back past the fuel door and put new steel in.

Passenger's side - not as bad, but still have to roll some new steel in there too

Starting to patch some of the inner fender well on the passenger side: (you can see how much further he took the outer fender down too)

Driver's side inner fender well patched, just needs to be ground down and smoothed over:

You can see here where the new steel is going on the driver's side fender and under the fuel door:

Driver's door sill. A bit of rust under here to clean up too

Some minor hood repair. There were a few small dings and scratches, but nothing major. Yes, he will be taking the scoops out to do under them properly as well.

That's it for now. Hopefully another week or so and she's done. He expects it to be in primer by Friday and painted the start of next week. He has asked for a bit more $$ as there was more rust than he anticipated, but we are still under what I had expected, so all good so far.

            More updates to come...stay tuned....

That's a lot of work for $2k-ish IMO! Looks like you're doing it right and not cutting corners. Looking good!

                    More updates...

left rear QP and below the fuel door. New metal in, almost ready for primer:

front right fender where the plastic was split. Repaired on the rear, still needs to be filled on the front:

Right rear quarter. All new metal under that filler, as well as new metal in the inner fender well...

right side rocker panel. That hole towards the back he made while I was there...slight tap with the body hammer. It's all coming out now and new metal going in about 2/3 of the way to the front.

close up of the right fender well

                    left rear QP from above:

Sail panel had some bubbling...cleaned up now.

left rocker was in MUCH better shape. He only had to replace a small piece of steel at the back

spoiler was pretty good. Just one low spot to clean up:

He hit me up for some MORE $$ now to replace that rocker...but I needs to be done, so I am biting the bullet and dipping into some suspension budget to get it done right.

Primer by monday he thinks, maybe done completely by next weekend.

good thing your doing it right by taking care of the rust issue now, looks like the rocker had been fixed before.

that's the problem with quoting body work, you never know what you're getting into until you start sanding, then all the bullshit comes out of hiding. You'll hate spending more now, but you'll forget all about it when it's done. Looks like it's going to look new when he's done. I'm sure it'll be worth it.

You speak the truth. I'd rather spend twice as much now and have nothing to worry about for 10+ years as far as rust problems creeping up or paint issues or anything, than cut corners to spend more in other areas and have serious problems a few years down the line.

You're doing it right, Randy. I'm excited to see how it turns out, it looks like the work is being done right, I'm sure your car is going to look like new when it's all done.
