  • Change of plans. Got to the Woodward loop off 59, looking at ominous skies. Got to the southbound side of the loop, and the sky lit up with lightning. Ducked under the Pheonix center and back to 59 and back home.

So technically, I made it to Woodward. But not very satisfying.

    • We were chasing the one cell up, so it was raining a little when we got to Ducati, and maybe for a few min after, and that was about it. By the time we left at 10, the roads were almost completely dry (aside from the edges).

            • If the weather looks decent tonight, I may head out after dark. But I've got my hands full with other projects and deadlines. It will have to be a later drive for me.

                  • If I were to guess, Craig ( 9T8W66 ) should be up there probably around 7 or 7:30 at the latest. I don't expect to be there until about 8:30.

                      • Went out at 930 this morning. Made a full lap and traffic was tolerable.

                        • I just got back, and traffic was a typical parking lot. I made a few laps north, and waded down to just north of 14 mile, I think, then bailed.

I idled through the whole length of the Dream Cruise last year. So I can say I've done it. No need to torture myself sitting for hours. It's like concentrated rush hour traffic.

                          • I did it once, with my IROC, and never needed to do it again. Took me an hour to go one mile. Craig and I did a couple early morning cruises two years, a few years back, those were cool - but a bit harder when I'm not in RO. Didn't make it down to my mom's until probably noon, then my wife had to make the dessert, then we ate lunch, went and did our annual ~5 mile walk (since we started at about 2:30, there actually was quite a lot less foot traffic, which was nice), came back, relaxed (actually took a short nap), and then my brother and I made our way out to Staples. HUGE drops of rain in RO when we were going to go clean the cars a bit, prior to heading up. Then it rained for about 10 min up at square lake. Oh well, didn't have to clean the cars!

Staples got absolutely nuts this evening/night this year...normally it's pretty quiet in that lot...this year, so many people (every spot was filled and there was a constant line backed up onto the right lane of Woodward trying to get in - probably a thousand people, easy) were there that the entirety of Bloomfield Hill's police department - plus some state police came, in full force, to shut everything down. 20-30 cops were on foot directing traffic on Woodward, as well as in the lot. Thankfully, they let me brother and myself wait until the end (when it was a little easier to get out and not sit in leg-destroying traffic) before telling us to leave. We couldn't have gotten out before anyway.

I was out all but one night this week, so it's been quite the long car-party for me. Even though I'm replacing the Buick's control arms tomorrow, I at least get to sleep in a bit.

This was the lot, at full tilt. All sorts of shit - tons of power. Probably a lot of daddy's money, too. Maybe some underage teenage pregnancy about to occur, and a lot of vaping.

The turnaround was backed up to get into the lot, as well. Look, an Autozam AZ-1! It makes the MR2 look huge!

And just some of the many, many police cars and bikes used to block traffic (lots of them just driving over the medians):

                            • Yeah, when I came by there, it was clear I was NOT going to get a spot in that lot. Made it out some during the week, so it was a good Cruise for us overall.

I may try Don's plan next year, and try to go out real early next year, cruise in the morning, then bail when things start getting too crazy.

                              • Yeah...not sure what it was this year, but there were about ten times more people up there this year...

And don't forget, we'll still be out on Fridays until it starts getting cold. May not be a lot of other cars out for a few weeks, but no reason for us not to go enjoy our cars!
