Good idea. Where would we like our first meeting to be held? A car show that is already in existence, a park, someplace else? Let hear it. Also if we do a meetup at a park, how big should be plan on making the event?

kinda hard to say without knowing more. how many members, whats the best location for them, etc. if its a smaller number then we can leech of another show already in existence. a bigger number would be better suited for a park. get everything all started first, get the club started officially, get the site up and running if you are gonna do that, and get enough members signed up before worrying about the first meet

The problem with that is if most of the member are on one side of the state then people on the oposite side either have to drive the distance all the time or miss out. For example i would love to have a weekly meetup like woodward but i cant drive all the way to the east side for that, it is a 2 and a half hour drive one way.

To keep the group as a whole running we should have one main group President and then one Vice-President per Division. The Vice-Presidents would report directly to the main President which would co-ordenate everything.

I'd be down for this. I think subdivisions would be a good idea. You could even call them 'chapters' like motorcycle clubs do. If it's just one big group it would be too hard to have meetings. Were as with chapters you could have meetings with your chapter every month, and then the big meets (like at a big car show) with all the chapters occasionaly.

I would recommend not having a State wide Club. Like many here have said, having regular meetings with the whole group would be difficult. Regular meetings, especially in the beginning stages, are very important. Getting the principals together often will keep the fire alive and give you a much better chance of making this last.

It has taken our Club years to have the kind of membership support we have now, that motivates some of our members to drive long distances to Club functions regularly.

On the other hand, you may find it difficult to, what would effectively be, starting two clubs at once. If you can find another member, that's just as motivated, and dedicated on the west side of the state, you may have a better chance.

Being online, here, will help everyone feel like they belong to a special group, though, and that should be a big help. However, you will find that the members will get much more satisfaction from their membership, if they become involved in the Clubs activities. Getting together, in person, has a much stronger effect than meeting on line.

You will need to come up with a good name for the Club. This is important, and should describe the Club well. If you called yourselves the Michigan Firebird Club, and it settles out to be mostly members from southeast Michigan, some member from Muskegon or Traverse City may feel alienated?

You should also design a good logo for the Club. It will become you Club's identity.

I'm very excited to see the initial overwhelming response to this idea. It will be fun watching the new "Birds of a Feather" grow.
RIP Doug,You will always be remembered

Doug and the other guys at WMCC have been very helpful so far and hopefully with his help we can make the transition to a formal group smoothly.

I agree with Doug, don't bite off more than you can chew. I would go with an area where you think most of your membership will be and stick with it like the East or SouthEast, or West, wherever but you get the idea. You will have enough to do with that. Be passionate, get and keep people involved and they will come. People not in the area will form their own weekly meets and stuff, we've seen it happen here this year with us on the west side.

Also, while I think you need to get the ball rolling, I don't think there is any rush, take your time do it right. It doesn't have to happen tomorrow.

Thanks for the honorary member status, you have my full support anyway, but its appreciated. Most importantly, Goodluck!!!
