  • Michigan Firebird Club

    Hello!

I have recently discovered that the state of MI does not have a single Firebird club. I find this distressing. I would like to change this.

Firebird owners should have associations just as Camaro owners do seeing that they are sister cars. I would like to suggest to all firebird, firehawk, trans am, and formula owners that we start our own club.

We can organize events, improve attendance at GM events where Firebirds seem to be a minority, and help to share the love of our cars! I have always felt that Firebird guys and gals have been in need of an organization like this and now is our chance but I need your help!

    Here is what we need:

Dedicated people to help me get things rolling.
People to suggest ideas and events.
    People to become members.
People to promote and represent the group.
Also we will need people to help running the group and facilitating contact info and outreach efforts.

    To Begin:
I need anyone interested to contact me via this thread or by PM. Please include contact info and any additional info you can give.
I would like to do some business card advertising but need a design what would attract any Firebird owner.
Also I will need to talk to Brian to see if we can use MIfbody to organize. I would not mind putting together a website if I can get someone to give me a quick tutorial.

I wondered when one of you Firechicken guys would try to do this. Talk to WMCC Doug to find out how he started the WMCC way back when. I'm sure it's a lot easier to recruit people now with the internet vs just meeting people and telling them about a club back when Doug started WMCC. I'm suprised there's not a MI Firebird club. It seems there's clubs for everything else. I know there's a Pontiac/Oakland club. Let me know when you get this rolling and I'll help promote it to people I know with Firebirds.

There is however a Pontiac Club. They host the show at Elhart Pontiac in Holland every year. Sorry I do not know their official name. You might contact Elhart to inquire.

Are you talking about the Widetrackers? I checked out their website but is seemed to be mostly non-fbody cars. It seems that there are Pontiac clubs but no official Firebird clubs or divisions. I would not mind setting up on offshoot effort with a club like the Widetrackers but I would need permission to do so.

I will contact Doug and ask him. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't think that you HAVE to be an offshoot of another club. You could certainly begin as a stand alone.

                Just an idle thought.

I hope you have a lot of extra time. Starting and running a club is ALOT of work. Not trying to discourage you just wanting you to know that it is not the easiest thing ti do.

I understand the effort and time involved. I am not looking to do this alone. I will find a way to get everyone involved in the process so I don't get myself in over my head. I am open to suggestions on how we want this club to be run. I think we should give the thread a few days to hear who else is interested. Then we can proceed from there. We can figure out how to elect club officials or how to set up a governing structure.

I would most definitely be interested.

It is about time that Firebirds stand up as the sister ship of the fbody line not the bastard child of the family.

I always wondered the same, myself. There's tons of Camaro stuff out there, but nothing on 'Birds. Same with 'Bird-centric events, etc. There's a few that I know of, but not nearly like Camaros have. If you guys need someone to be webmaster or if you want the site's forum to be based on MiFbody (WMCC and EMCC style) let me know.
