  • WTB: 10 bolt

As much as I hate to do this or even make this thread it just doesn't look like I'm gonna have the funds anytime soon for a 9". Being that I'd rather still drive and race my car next year I'm looking to buy a 10 bolt with a working posi unit or possibly just a posi unit itself. I'm not wanting to spend much money at all so the cheaper the better. I wanna do this as cheap as possible and I'm going to do the work myself, so I may try and gear swap just for the hell of it. Let me know what you have or find but I'd prefer someone local so I can avoid added cost of shipping.

I would try and find some gears and a posi for like 100-150 bucks, thatd probably be your best bet. I always see them going up for sale on LS1tech. Its going to be a lot easier to find those on ls1tech and have them shipped than to try and find an entire rear end locally. (shipping a posi would be fairly cheap, rear end.. not so much.)

I agree, but all I have found so far on tech was $250+ and I'd like to do it all for $200 or less.

try looking for separate. Usually entire rear ends go for 250. You should be able to find 3.42s for like 50 bucks and a posi for like 100. I'll post up in here if I see anything go up for sale.

thanks Brian I sent him a PM, I forgot to add I'd like to keep my ABS and TCS so it has to be a 4 channel. As for gears I'd like to go 3.73s but I could use 4.10s as well so I also need the rear or posi to be a 3 series.

If it were me I would use nothing but a factory original gearset/axle. IMO its the swapped axles that break all the time.

And also a complete axle may be over your budget now, but then you can find a replacement posi and have a spare axle that you can sell for $250+ ... or keep it around in case of break. Not to mention an axle swap is alot easier than a gear swap.

That would be great, thanks again Sean. Do you happen to know anything about it? 3 or 4 channel? gearset ect?

I completly understand where you are coming from Joel and I agree it would be best to stick with the stock gearset but thats not going to happen. I don't expect this rear to last long but I'd like to see what it can do at the track with some steeper gears. There are a lot faster auto cars than mine that have 10 bolts so maybe I'll get lucky, maybe not. Either way I understand the risk its just against my nature to not improve my cars ET when something breaks so I have to try.

Ryan, I still plan on buying a 9" but with a wife, kid, mortgage and the debt we currently are trying to get rid of its gonna take longer than this winter. Either way I'm getting ready for you in the spring
