ok i have a 98 firebird with a 3800 my husband got the idea of taking the supercharger from a Grand Prix GTP and putting it in the bird...... Is that even possible???? lol anyway i am actually looking for the supercharger and any other parts that would be needed to complete this project. be it wiring special lines for the vacuum anything like that. and if anyone has ever done this before i could use some advice on how to do it and things to watch out for......... Is it possible, yes, does it take a TON of fabrication yes. You would be better off buying a powerdyne supercharger and going that route. If you do a search you will find a long great thread about a 3800 that had a custom kit mounted to it. Overall there has been one person that made it work but the stock supercharger off of the grand prix is good for 40 horsepower and for the amount of work you do it is not worth it.sigpic

Pound for pound, a turbo is more powerful/efficient than a supercharger. Case in point - SRT4 vs. Cobalt SS. Nearly same CID motors, but the turbo makes more power. However supercharger "kits" are a more common bolt on than turbo's, so the wrench to reward ratio on the supercharger is greater. Having riden in and driven both, I wouldn't trade my turbo's for a supercharger....ever.

You could also do a GN setup too...

Prochargers are equal with turbos, Its like a turbo but with no lag.

yeah I would rather have a supercharger, Unless you can spend a very large amount of money, you will have turbo lag, With all the cars I have driven at work I have come to hate turbos. The lag sucks.

Hello I am Derek with the powerdyne supercharger kit, as stated view that link for details. I am debating taking it off the car and selling the complete kit to have some spare money for college and save up for a v8. Kit has worked flawlessly on my stock motor with only injectors upgraded from stock. Definately gives the car a huge kick, truly a fun car to drive now. Ive only had it on since last fall so it probably has under 5k miles on it, maybe under 3k. Kit was entirely custom put together by us based on the kit that used to be sold from RKsport. we improved the kit by adding a bolt that makes belt tensioning a breeze. PM me if you are interested, ill sell it for the right price
here is the link to my thread, it is really long but it shows as we upgraded parts and progressed to the final kit I have now. http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/sho...t=superchargerLast edited by Derek; July 2nd, 2008, 06:10 PM.-Derek-

If you do the turbo thing right you have almost no lag. You cant evan tell its there. Turbo kit will give you more HP for sure, but if you use procharger unit would work good also, I wouldnt recumend a supercharger off a GTP, ITS ALOT OF WORK AND $$$$ AND YOU GET 40-50HP THATS IT. ON STOCK ENGINE.. if your looking for power I would go with a turbo or a procharger unit, You can make from 300+ possible rwhp with a procharger unit or turbo.. But your not going to get away of fabbing things yourself or paying someone to fab things up for you...

A properly sized turbo will kick the h*ll out of a supercharger hands down. Be it Procharger, Paxton, Vortech, whatever.... I get full boost by 2200 rpms and hold to red line....a centrifugal supercharger's power is based on engine speed, making maximum boost at peak engine rpm. A simple drag of the brakes from a roll and I can leave of full boost...now that's fun!!
My SRT4 makes boost instantly also... but sure, put a 50 trim or a 60 series turbo on it and you could probably take a nap while waiting for the boost. But when it hits hold on!!
Kyle - the ZR1 is supercharged due to packaging and weight reasons. The Nissan GT-R makes nearly as much power as the ZR1 with far less displacement. Hhmmm....turbos seem pretty effective to me....
GM finally figured that out with the new Cobalt SS
... and the Sky...and the Solstice...
