Need a PROJECT! Who wants to LED their interior?

I've got two of them in the front map lights in my Malibu. If my dome light weren't angled down and back, it would be fine, but there is just so much light, and the position is so exposed, that even in broad daylight, it's bright enough to nearly blind me. I'm going to have him make something a little smaller, that can be recessed into the factory housing a little deeper, to eliminate the issue. I'll be running the same as what you have in my center overhead light, as well as a couple in my trunk, and in a couple places in the Formula, but I'm going to tone them down a little bit. Need to strike a balance between "OMG MY RETINAS ARE ON FIRE!!!" and "well, this is a manageable amount of light". Trying to maximize the usable light.

We may bring some toys with us to the Meet and Greet. . .

I wanted to update you all again with pricing as it sits:

Dome Lights will be $10 + return shipping for us to install the boards (can combine shipping with other items), or $5 + shipping for us to simply send you the boards to install yourself.

Map Lights (mirror lights) will be $15 + return shipping for us to install the boards, or $10 + shipping for you to install them yourself.

Footwell Lights will be $10 for a pair of boards identical to those pictured in the dome light a few posts above. You will have to install these yourself. You can use 3M Trim Tape or screws to attach the boards to the vehicle.

Center Console and Glove Compartment light prices have yet to be determined, we are still looking for an option that will work well.


Depending on how this all works out, we will be forming a company and becoming a sponsor here. This is going to be our "test run" to see if it's worth taking the risk.

Other colors are available, so please contact me. If you would like to place an order, please contact me via PM. Shipping prices will be actual, and I prefer USPS Flat-Rate, so if you want mirrors, dome light, footwell light boards, etc., we will package it all in the smallest flat-rate box it will all fit in. You can also pick them up personally, either after work or at an event.

Sorry, there are just too many regulations concerning exterior lighting. Interior is where we will stay, until we are confident that we can provide a reliable, weatherproof option for exterior lighting that will comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

I also need a few days to come to a conclusion on the status of my project - for example, I already had materials on order to make an overlay, and they all should arrive by the weekend. So, I'll see what kind of cluster eff I've gotten myself into, and I'll be able to come back to you with some solid ideas of what products I need from you.

Here's something I hadn't even started on, but would be interested in...in my 'vert, I have the two map lights in the mirror (I believe they are 194's?) and two of the "festoons" in the back (so, no dome light). I'm interested in going to a more white color and slightly brighter bulbs, like the LED panels you're offering. I also really like the "theater dimming" aspect of the incandescent...is that something you can work out on your boards? Have the brighter whiter LEDs function within the stock power range to dim to black nicely?

Yes, and no.

Replacing with a better white, and dimming, is easy. The problem I am finding is that the power in these cars is so dirty, they tend to flicker when dimming. I'm working on a fix to either add some filters to smooth out the power, or adding a 12V regulator before the dimmer to supply clean power. Eitehr way, we should end up with a broader dimming range, and better control. We will keep you posted.

Cool - I know I keep focusing on this dimming thing, just in my mind the "dome" circuit seemed like it may have been a little more conducive to a plug and play thing since it seems like it's "electronically" dimmed via the PCM rather than "manually" via the dimmer wheel... I just assumed it was more dynamic (kind of infinitely variable) and cleaner.

Hopefully something can be integrated into the light/board assembly itself so it's plug and play

That's what we're working on now. My Firebird doesn't "dim" the dome lights, they just shut off. My Malibu, however, does the whole "Fade to Black" thing. Problem is the threshold on the LED's we are using, combined with the "dirty" power in the car, causes inconsistent dimming, and flickering. It also doesn't dim all the way to black, it will dim to the power threshold of the LEDs, then shut off.

Mike is working on some ideas for that aspect of things, and once we have a solid idea that works, we'll be able to help you out. I don't think it will take too long, as we've been discussing options to remedy the situation for a few weeks now.

Easily. Just need to take a few measurements for wire lengths and such, and come up with a spot to tap into for power. No problem.

Cool, so does the pricing still apply for doing some LED's on his power wheels? Or will this be custom pricing .. Mainly I would want tail lights,head lights, and maybe a strip in the front to simulate police lights.
