  • Need a PROJECT! Who wants to LED their interior?

Work is a little slow right now, I gave up most of my hobbies over the last year, and now I'm bored.

I work for an LED manufacturer, and I have been an electronics technician for going on 20 years. I'm looking to do things like adding lights (underdash, door pulls, map pockets, that kind of thing), changing existing color interior lights to whatever you want, replacement dome/trunk lights, etc.

LIMITATIONS: I cannot do anything with vacuum displays. The color they are is the color they are. Stock radios are easy, aftermarket radios a bit harder. But most of those are touch screens anyway. I do NOT want to do exterior lighting. Too many laws involved there. I can do accent lighting or lights that will only be used when the car is parked for shows and such. No brake lights, no headlights. Too much liability.

Other than that, if you can dream it, we can find a way to do it. I'm looking for a couple of projects to show what I can do, so who's up for it? I know several members on here have mentioned before that they would like to do this and that. Well, time to DO it!

Hmmm...unfortunately the G8 is mothballed for the winter, but it would be nice to get another set of tail lights and convert those to LEDs...

Would have to get a set first...want to wait until spring?

I already did all of the easy L.E.D Swaps in my interior but i wanted to figure out a way to hide a nice and very bright strip of cool white L.E.D's that would only come on when the door is open or you bump the dome lights on from the switch.

Mike does top-notch work, and I'm sure that depending on desired placement, he could figure out an option for you that would prevent the need for a "strip", and accomplish the same thing with a couple well-placed, high-output LED's in any color you want.

I have custom LED dome lights in my DD that Mike built for me, and honestly, they are too bright. I'll have to get some pictures up when we get some LED work done in my Formula, I think you'll all be pretty impressed.

I've been interested in mocking up a white LED panel that will fit into my existing dome light space. If you have a panel that will fit let me know and i'll be glad to order from you

Not a problem. If you can shoot me a pic of the interior of the dome light, or just give me the dimensions, I have three different board styles I use for them. I also need to know if you want warm white or cool white, and if you want a standard intensity or the "Oh my god I can see the bones in my hand" intensity.

I should clarify as well, these are high power, high quality LED's, not the cheap leaded LED's you get in many online kits. I can custom cut circuit boards if necessary, and can do light pipe as well.

No problem. How long do you want the strip? Where is it going to be mounted? Tapping into the feed for the door switch is no problem.

I'm not sure where to put it. Somewhere that would do the best to illuminate everything from the floor up. Size will depend on where it goes.

Which LEDs are you using? Golden Dragons?

So these LED's are better than superbright leds? I have them in the dash of my 94 and they seem bright as hell lol

Easily done. 3M light pipe with a couple of OSLONS on the ends. Probably go with Hyper Red, to match Scarlet.

For dome lights, yeah! Mix in a few Diamond Dragons, some OSLONS, and a power topled or two. Most clusters, radios, and HVAC units use either topleds, power topleds, or in the case of the HVAC, some still use incandescent.
