Are you handy at all? Reliable transportation? Willing to come to Monroe? I'm going to need some temporary help some time in the next few weeks, pay is decent, but it's by no means a permanent job. Let me know if it's something you're interested in, it's labor intensive, mostly ripping out carpet in apartments and moving appliances, patching holes in drywall, that kind of thing. If nothing else, it'll get you some money to keep gas in your tank for the job search. I should know more next week.

im on a study plan for Lawrence Tech at Macomb right now as i plan on transferring there. its basically just getting my prerequisites out of the way and all that. i recently heard of a new program there and im hoping its not too late to get into it. The class is called Product Development and they have teamed with GM and Chrysler to give students Co-op oppurtunities. Nick im pretty handy and quite a work horse in manual jobs. My Dad and I do Handyman work but thats slowed down alot over winter, let me know next week ill see what i can do to help even though its an hour and a half drive roughly

I don't want to hear about how far of a drive it is, I work in Birmingham a couple days a week, about to start working out there every day, and that's 2 hours each way. Monroe is an hour each way, and I make the trip at least 3 days a week. haha

I'll let you know if I get the approval from the boss, I don't think they'll have a problem with it. It saves them from having to pay a contractor if I just bring in my own crew.

If you cant afford LTU (without loans) I would advise you NOT to go there. They will set your life up for failure out of college, ask me how I know and a 6 figure debt acquired from LTU.

Back to your original question, what do you want to do? Full time, part time? I know for a fact the Royal Oak and Warren Post Offices are hiring both walking routes and sorting personnel.

Look into the Warren Post office if its not too far of a drive for you (its by where we met for lunch and by my house) they have sorting personnel jobs available. Both for the post office location and the hub locations. Part time work.

A growing property management company in Birmingham. We do build-outs and manage/maintain large commercial buildings (office space, mostly), but we have one residential rental property in Monroe, which is the project I run. We have a handful of vacant units I want to get flipped and rented out in the next couple weeks, and with another person helping out, I can get twice as much done in half the time. Cost difference to the company is minimal, they can either pay me my normal rate for 8 hours, or pay me for 4 hours and let me pay another guy for 4 hours, get the same amount of work done, which frees me up to maintain the occupied units the rest of the day.

Just waiting for the approval from the boss, and we can have you out here to help out until the work is done.

Post office is a GREAT job. Aside from the obvious downside (no job security at all), any time spent working for the USPS counts toward federal retirement. If you were to work for the post office for 5 years then join the military, you'd be eligible for retirement after 15 years in (20 years total). I think retirement from the Postal Service is after 30 years, but any time in the military counts towards that time, as does any other federal gov't job.

My uncle is sitting on 22 years in the post office, plus 5 years in the Marines, and my aunt (his wife), is right at either 18 or 20 years at the post office. They love their jobs. Aunt works inside the post office, uncle is a mail carrier. It's a long time, but you would be hard pressed to match the benefits you get as a federal employee. The healthcare and retirement plan alone are worth working for. Add the salary on top, you're in good shape, provided you are able to keep your job long enough to retire.
