So is there really a disadvantage to going with a higher spline count than a lower one?

And what differentials are available, durability on the street, etc.

if you're spending ~$2400 on a rear end, I think you can spend a few hundred more for a Tq arm, adjustable pan hard and some lower control arms. If you have a 9" and it's hung in your car with the factroy stamped steel garbage, that would be the definition of hood rich..... (eg, $2000 rims/tires on a $1500 grand am)

I think it all revolves around cost. You will be throwing money out left and right initially as well as during a refresh or part swap. You could use a 31 spline setup and be perfectly fine.

Number of splines does not change the price on any of the differentials:

Maybe not as a complete kit like that but if you buy a housing and axle kit, there's a difference.

Agreed! I def. don't want to rig up this by any means. So all the stock parts listed will not fit the new axle or is it the fact that it's never a great idea to re-use existing parts in a new project? Just curious...

as mentioned the harder bigger splined axles are not well suited for daily driving and won't hold up to lots of cornering they are designed for a track only car.

Moser 9 inch just came in and started to sort everything out for the install..

I did listen to everyones input and settled on the 31 spline with the tru-trac (wanted the wave trac but couldn't justify spending the couple hundred more when this seems to be plenty strong enough) and 4.11 gears, Spohn adjustable tq arm and the adj panhard was ordered too.

Had one last major question before I start putting this thing in..as far as the factory sway bar; I know that it will not fit the moser 9 inch and I will have to get the brackets that push it out further to give it clearance. I cant recall but I thought I remember someone on here in one of the other posts that you don't need the sway bar necessarily especially if its a strip/street car and will not be road raced or made for handling in that way. Does not putting it on make that much of a difference or do you guys recommend putting it back on? Also what do you guys recommend me doing with the brake backing plates that do not come on the new axle (think they come on the LT1 F-bodies)?? Can I take mine off and have them welded or do I not even need them welded or something totally different. I'm just not 100% clear on what my options are. Kind of shitty you spend 3k on a new axle and they don't have backing plates and do not throw them is or at least give you the option to order them. Maybe they do who knows; just kind of caught me off guard when they weren't on there axles and was something I missed. Thanks for all the help and input! Appreciate all of it!!

Sorry Just realized my proof reading skills still haven't developed and that post was butchered up big time. Hopefully you guys get the idea. When you get home from work all day the last thing you want to do is make any extra work. Sorry again and thanks!

when everyone was referring to not running a sway bar they were referring to the front sway bar.. not the one for the rear.. your best option is going to be to order a rear drag sway bar which will come with the mounts needed to put it on the rear end

No definitely not "blown" but definitely not perfect. Starting to leak and I've been told the bearing is shot which caused the seal to go bad (replaced once)..But if you had some time, working on it while its out of the car def wouldnt be bad. Nothing else should be wrong with it.

I'll definitely be getting rid of it as soon as its out. Interested? lol
