  • UMI torque arm kit w/ ds loop on the way. A arms have been purchased, need to sand blast/paint and press in my poly bushings. Rear end is about 1/2 way done but I need to get the old diff bearings pressed off. Everything I need to hang the exhaust (except for the catalytic converter bracket) has been ordered as well.

    And I hate body work.

    • yeah me too, my car and the "body work" has taken a back seat. I got so tired of inhaling dust I figured I would take a break from that,

      Keep it up!

      • I got it smoothed out with a hammer/dolly and spot puddy. I'll probably lay a coat of high build primer today.

Not sure why I put all that work into this fender...I have a nice OEM one on the way. If this one turns out well I guess I'll just sell the new one instead of cutting up another fender.

Whoever painted this car sprayed a LOT of clear on it. Both good and bad for me. Good - I can sand a majority of the car down nice and flat w/o cutting into the color. Bad - Didn't pull anything. Just sprayed everything while it was on the car. Removing moldings, gfx, spoiler is going to leave behind some awful work for me

        • Just an update.

That fender I bought on eBay, well, the guy didn't want to ship it. He though it would be $20 for shipping so that's what he listed in the auction. I knew it would be a lot more (they wanted $70) so I bid and won it. They guy said he couldn't do that. I gave him a lecture on eBay selling policies In the end I told him to refund the money, didn't feel like being a huge prick about it.

UMI torque arm setup is 1/2 installed. I have one bolt the was snapped off in the driver side middle location for the transmission cross member. I tried welding a washer then nut on the little bit protruding, I couldn't get the weld to stick to the bolt whatsoever. Weld looked great on the washer but was always porous where the bead made contact with the bolt 5 bolts should be just fine until I can get the car on a lift to drill out the bolt...if I feel like it.

I've been messing with the rear end for a couple nights straight trying to get a good pattern on the used gear. Tossing around the idea of buying a new set of 3.73. Solid pinion spacer kit will be here Monday.

I still haven't received my package from Rock Auto. I got an email from USPS on Feb 23rd stating "Electronic Shipping Info Received". It STILL says that on the USPS website. The package contains everything I need to hang the rear portion of my exhaust

GM Restoration Parts carpet kit has arrived. Need to patch one more area by the rear seat rail before I can seam seal/undercoat and start putting the interior back together.

Other than that, I've been working on my HPI Savage R/C truck. Getting it prettied up to possibly sell...or get beat up once again

Considering how well this build is going - I figured I could use all the good karma I can get.

I'm going to set the rear end up as good as I can get it...as soon as the garage warms up. I sure hope any good karma that I do have goes into that 10 bolt. The rest of the stuff I can deal with

                • Good karma was once again nowhere to be found. 89 and up rears are supposed to have 28 spline axles...well my rear is not original or it's an early 89. Needless to say I need to buy new axles now. EFF. Unexpected $240 expense...probably wont get that new convertible top for a while

                    • Nah, the past is the past

Doing some more shopping around, the best price I have found is $191.81 shipped to my door. That is for 4340 Chromoly axles.

I did find an 89 rear end out of a v6 car near me for 50 bucks. I emailed the guy to see what spline count they are and if I get a "what's that mean?" response I think I'll offer to remove it from his property for free

                      EDIT:
                      Found some for 187.16!

Exhaust is in. I'm talking with the owner of BadlanzHPE about swapping my e-cutout. I bought a 3" from him a long time ago but it doesn't fit. Seems that the Magnaflow cutout y uses a larger flange, think I need a 3 1/2". I'm going to fire it up tomorrow before work or Sunday afternoon.

Just need some axles so I can put it back together...then break things. Good thing I just got a bonus AND a raise

                            • Exhaust isn't set in its final place, just snugged up. The tips are slipped on, need to cut about 1/2" off each side. The exhaust is HOT, literally. The tips will burn your fingers after a couple minutes at idle, if you touch them for a second that is
