The running method is the easiest (or sounds like it) because you just loosen until it starts clicking and then tighten until the clicking goes away... then do your preload.

Well the thing is the noise started almost 3 weeks ago so I guess thats when the oile was a little low. But the oil pressure read fine until yesterday when it dropped to 0 briefly before jumping back up to about 25 psi at idle.

And how do I ajust the valve lash, I have never done it before.

I'd just replace the lifters. Since it's not a roller, then just do them all. They're not that expensive.

Also, remember to adjust the valve lash. I'd see if you can cut a valve cover or two so that you can do this while it's running. Without a modded cover, it'll get messy.

After you've tightened the rocker nuts reasonably (minimal amount of play at the rocker arms when the nuts are tightened) and after you get the cut covers on, slowly tighten the adjuster nut (remember, one at a time) until you notice a bog on the motor, then back the nut off about 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

Let me know if you need this method clarified. Sounds complicated, but once you get into it, it's a piece of cake.

Can't listen to the video but is he saying to spin the pushrods? I've read to never do it that way because each person's perception of "drag" on the pushrod is different - rather move the pushrod up and down and when you can't move it up and down it's at zero lash.

Spinning it is the easiest way, once you've done it, you'll know why.

The pushrod stops spinning immediately when there is the slightest drag on it because it become captured....not saying you can't still spin it after that point, you can overcome the drag, but there is a distinct difference.

Well I am first gonna try adjusting the valve lash with the lifters I already have in the vehicle and see if I can get the tapping noise to go away. I really don't have a lot of time to pull my intake off right now. I am remoddling our basement and our house just went up on the market. I just want to make it drivable for the rest of the year. Then I will tear it open when winter comes.

Now which ones are the inkae and exhaust valves?

Jake, it's real easy to tell which valve is which once you get the valve covers off. The intake valve will be inline with the intake runner on your TPI base manifold. The exhaust valve will be inline with the exhaust port on the head, ie. header tube/manifold .....you will see once you get the cover off....or if you want to see it in black and white, just google it, all valve layout's are the same on SBC's.

Quick question, when the valve spring is compressed it the valve open or closed?
