you seemed pretty confident before derek, but you never raced me
I agree completely... my V6 feels like child's play even compared to a bone stock LT1.

redfirebirdv6: Yea that's why i've pretty much decided to go ls1, but look at what you did this way, now that you know what your doing with superchargers you can build your own kit for your new car. I see d1sc's on ebay all the time. Anyways I put a rough build list together last night and if i can get an ls1 engine and trans for around 3-4 k then i could do the whole swap for around 4500 to 5500 bucks. I just need to get in contact with some people that have done the swap so that i can make a complete list of all the parts needed. So far i have cradle 100, engine trans 3-4k, springs 75, posi unit 200, gauge cluster 200, headers 500, cat back exahust 500, intake/ radiator cover 100. I'm also wondering if there are any modifications i need to make to stuff like radiator, fueling system, or if the computer connections are the same from v6 to v8. I got a lot of research ahead of me but i hope to be buying an engine by next spring/summer. I was also wondering if a ls3 with a 4l60E would fit, but i guess i got some research ahead of me.sigpic

I dont meen to rain on his thread because this is sorta off topic so i suggest starting your own thread. I will say put your car up for sale or on ebay or whatever right now and buy an ls1 camaro. They can be had for DIRT cheap right now, ive seen SS's with under 100k miles going for around 8k give or take on ls1tech. They will only get cheaper when the new camaro comes out. Just my 2 cents, you will have a LOT of headaches doing the swap, you will need a complete motor tranny and accessories as well as new air intake system, different springs, different speedo etc.. when its all said and done you will have spent as much as buying a car that already has an ls1, and your car wont even have the value. Trust me i looked into it, hence why i have an ls1 car now.Originally posted by cobalt camaro View Postredfirebirdv6: Yea that's why i've pretty much decided to go ls1, but look at what you did this way, now that you know what your doing with superchargers you can build your own kit for your new car. x2...to all of that...unless your car has significant sentimental value to it, just sell it and buy the "done" platform to start from.Originally posted by redfbird99 View PostI dont meen to rain on his thread because this is sorta off topic so i suggest starting your own thread. gotta put in my $.02 here. since this is for a 3rd gen, and you said "budget", I say forget the LS engines. you'll spend ALOT of money JUST TO MAKE IT BOLT IN (Kmember $$, headers $$$, motor mounts $$) let alone all the harness mess and gauges to make it work. yeah its got some cool factor to it, but so does any eng. that will go 10's right?
genII will bolt right in using stock motor mounts, will use the current wiring (most of it for the gauges anyways) but if you want to make it FI still, it'll also need a custom harness. stand alone is prolly alot easier then retrofitting a stock LT harness. but GOOD headers (nec if you really want to make a serious car out of it) will still cost you $500. and a stand alone harness will also add in there.
Id recomend a gen 1 or 2, solid roller cam, about 13-14:1 compression (E85 is more like 105 from what Ive read), 4K stall,700r4 trans, 9" rear, 3:55 gears, AFR heads, single plane carb intake with 1000cfm tbody and elbow setup, and a nice nitrous setup to make sure you hit your goals. but in a light weight car, the right cam, it might only need a 100hp shot to get there if that. even with the street friendly gears. and you could play with tire diameter to adj. your launch/60foot vs mpg.
for a more serious setup, go th400, 4500 stall, 4.33 gears, 28" tires, 850 ultra HP carb.
then save the 200hp nitrous shot for those punks in the LS cars.

1995 z28 someday I'll get it back together after deciding to take the eng. for my drag car.
