  • Robin's fuel issue??? I think...

    So it stalls when I go to start it, but only sometimes. As I drive down the road, it kind of sputters, like it's not getting fuel. The RPMs and speed drop and if I give it more gas, it clears up. Also if I just hold my foot there, it sputters and clears up like the fuel wasn't getting in there. Also, there's a nasty smell like burnt paper or sulfer at times. The car is not over-heating though. What do we think it is??? I'm thinking fuel delivery or emmission control.

    Sounds like a plugged cat converter to me. They're not cheap to replace either. Probably $150-200 to have one installed at least at a muffler shop.

                cool, thanks. That's better than $200 for new cats.

                Like how far I push the pedal down. Or are you talking transmission? It does it when the pedal is half-way down on the gas.

                It started doing it when I'd accelerate on an on-ramp. Now it does it a lot between 50-60mph, that's around 4th gear I think. It did it a few times around 30-35, and a few at 45. But it doesn't always correlate with the Transmission. I could be holding my foot consistantly on the gas maintaining a certain speed and it will do it.

                      tps= Throttle Position Sensor

                      Sounds like it might be missfiring, When is the last time the spark plugs and wires have been changed?

                              no I just meant that its not your plugs and wires since they are new. It could be the throttle position sensor-It might be going bad.
