  • Need some advice for the Trans Am PLEASE!

Ok so I have been bouncing around a lot of ideas the past two months.
If you guys dont know the Trans Am in my sig pic i just bought as a roller
Built rear and some other goodies BUT no engine no trans
I will not go AUTO trans just to clarify
Im trying to build one hell of a street car

So I was going to do Turbo LS1 T56
Then I thought about NA Monster LS1 T56
But my dad and his buddy are really pushing me to go old school which would be kinda cool

If i went that route id prolly want to go 383, 427 or 454
Which yes i know is a bit of a range lol but im just kinda digging into it
I had a 383 in my 79 Camaro that I did love but only sat at about 400 RWHP (not enough)

Just want some ideas on what you guys think of an old school engine set up in the 97
AND what in hell am i going to do about a trans? What 6 speed trans options do i have if i go to a SBC or BBC carb car?

Idk if anyone has done this style on here yet but i need insight

So LT1 t56 will bolt to pretty much any 350 SBC? kinda what i was hoping if i go that route. Any year besides 93 to stick away from? and yes ive looked at doing LQ9 turbo also

i also found a GTO ls1 t56 for $5k thats only got 34k miles on it but for 5k i feel like i could end up with a lot more if i went another route

Depends how much of a monster you want..
              H/C/I LS1 or LS2

              Or smaller H/C/I LS1 with a turbo.

I would definetly stay LS. If you want "one hell of a street car" like mentioned before go with a lq and turbo it. Or if its easier for you to get youre hands on a 5.3. If you want a max effort NA ls1 you could see 500+ spending a decent amount of money getting there. Both options do the trick. I dont know how you feel about driveability personally i care less but to each their own

Superman does the new v2 require truck mani? or what intake would i be running with that kit, because not that it isnt worth it but your kit is good chunk of change

There used to be a member here with an early 4th Gen Firebird, dark green color, with a carb'ed SBC under the hood, but I haven't seen him in a while. I want to say wasjo6431 was the one? I haven't seen him on here in over a year though. . . Maybe dig through his old threads to find out what he was running? It was a neat setup, but he had to cut the cowl to allow clearance for the carb, so I would probably try to stick with an LT/LS engine to avoid those issues.

Or go all-out, and do a custom firewall to allow clearance for a BBC with a blower sitting on top. . .

If it were me, and I was going for the quickest/cheapest route to getting the car on the road, it would be an LT1/T56 combo, with bolt-ons, tune, and either a 9" or 12-bolt rear end, so I didn't have to worry about grenading the stock rear. If money were no object, and I wanted to torture myself with re-wiring the car, but make more power, I'd go with an LQ4/T56 with some sort of FI, whether it be single turbo or twins. You'll get better gas mileage out of this combo than any of the others, also. . .

If I wanted to go all-motor, I'd build a 6.0 with all the goodies...

No, our new V2 kit includes fabricated stainless steel exhaust manifolds. The old V1 kit used truck exhaust manifolds. We supply the new V2 manifolds in the new V2 kits. Intake manifold doesn't change.... run your factory LS1/LS6, LS2, Fast, etc

IMHO if you want a sweet street car, you want new technology like an LS block. Going carbed, IMHO, is just silly.

Correct it is silly, for most people that is. Doing a conversion is just not worth it im sure thats why no one mentioned it, its definetly not a popular thing
