Well the rear end is built lol. All done there and ready for up to 800 comfortably also already have chromoly driveshaft.
This car literally only needs a drive train. everything else is set up and ready for big power. I have been reading a lot and i think im going to go with a 5.3 and a v2 kit with the lumpiest appropriate cam for the kit and try to sit around 600-650 with a T56

Well it's been forever since I have been on the forum. Glad to see you still have the old girl lol. I will give you the reasons why I wouldn't put a big block motor in there. It's is unique, and for a reason.
A big block will require cutting a ton of the wiper area(not sure it's technical name) and that was always something I told my self I would never do. I wanted it to be a monster while still looking somewhat not all cut up. So the bb will be harder to work on since there isn't a ton of room in the engine bay, and it puts so much weight in the front end, all the car will do is spin because it's not designed for that heavy of a motor. So I guess if spinning is grinning then you will be smiling a lot. Ha
I would keep your original plans and go ls turbo.

I'll be different, Cuz that's how I roll.

Go with a SBC 400, 4 bolt main block, and put in a 406 stroker kit. It doesn't require a ton of costly parts: fuel injection, costly tune, costly PCM's, costly manifolds...

Go 11:1 or 12:1 compression, forged pistons, Higl flow aluminum heads, 800CFM Holley carb, and that will be a nasty street car that won't require a second mortgage or hopeful wishes that someone knows how to tune it. All you need is a timing light, vacuum gauge, and a small flat blade screwdriver.

VS:
5.3L built with forged pistons, high pressure rings ~$3,000
Turbo setup with turbo, manifolds, fuel, wiring ~ $4,000
PCM Tuning $$$ (oops, not right) $$$$ (still not right)...damnit, gotta buy a pro shop tune $$$$

400 bored .030 over is a 406. A stroked 400 is a 421 I believe.

A 04+ 5.3 with a set of forged pistons, moly rings, and a set of 317 heads can be done cheap and hold gobs of power Pretty cheap, too. Put the money saved into a turbo kit from Jonny. Get the good Dr. to tune it.

Ive been wondering if its possible to adapt a 400 block to use an LT1 top end. Seems like that combo'd with 24x EFI would be the ultimate sbc.

Im set in going with a 5.3, huron speed turbo kit and t56.
Ive found quite a few 5.3s with decent mileage for between 500 and 1000
Prolly be going with a kit similar to the V2 if i miss this run of kits
What all is recommended to be swapped or done to a 5.3 for the v2 kit to reach 600ish? Superman09

I have no "budget"
Does that mean i feel like pouring 20k into a build no not really, but it can take as long as i want slowly putting everything together. Im not really in a hurry
Goal is 600-650 wheel for now

A simple TC78 on a 5.3 will have zero issues getting to 650-700 rwhp! TC78's love the 5.3's!

Thats kinda what i was leaning towards after a lot of reading lol
But theres so many reviews and different thoughts on heads, cam, everything else to get there.
Some of the 5.3s im looking at are over 100k and idk if im better off rebuilding the hell out of it and going for the long run
or slap it in leave it stock, wait for it to blow up and throw in another one lol
