  • a buddy is going from efi lt1 to carb lt1 which is better?

So he's going from a efi controlled lt1 to carb. Well he's thinking about it.

    So which one is better?

    He has a aftermarket maf
    Cam
    Headers,
    Tuned pcm.
    Geared rear
    52mm tb
    1le style intake elbow.
And a fresh 4l60e with shift kit

Now he wants to go to carb because he drove it in
The rain with the hood off for a few days now it won't start.
But he says its getting spark. (Like mine was remember that guys)

I've heard it takes 2000$+ to convert over AND you can lose opti 30% of your horsepower doing this.

He's talking about using a 82-92 motor gen 1 intake and putting it on the Lt1. And using a 650 holley...

He will be checking in on this as I'm sending him the link to keep an eye on it and I will be too.

    Its a 1995 firebird formula.

Too much work for what it is.
He should fix whatever is wrong with it after he drove it in the rain.

Terrible idea in my opinion. If he wants to fix the problem the right way upgrade it to LS1 pcm and ignition with coil per cylinder (no more opti)

Yeah if you're going to spend $2000, go with the BETTER combination and do the LS1 PCM like Joel said...

But that said - he has a 95 Formula and was driving around with the hood off? He from Taylor-tucky or just wish it was a 3rd gen?

                      4l60 uses a TV cable. 1993 LT1 F-bodies were this way.
4l60e does not have a TV cable

No he's from the flint area. Its a really nice car. I personally hate to see a good ol' lt1 with its balls cut off and carbed.

I mean the reason the lt1 performs so well is the intake, fuel and ignition systems. And with going to a carb its taking all of that away and putting it back into the stone ages.

Its kinda like having the old big brick phone from the 90's and here we are with the greatest tech stuff out

Again, upgrading to the LS1 PCM with a crank sensor instead of the optifail would be the way to go.

X2 the efi connection system is sweet. The tunability is awsome. Not to mention the optifail is tossed in the trash can where it belongs

i beleive 4l60e needs rpm signal to let the computer contol it so the easiest way is to find rpm signal and tap it into the computer.
