  • 98 z28 "Free mods"

    so i picked up a 98 z28 on friday... pretty stock. wondering if theres any "free" or cheap mods that can be done to this thing... any insight would be appreciated thanks!

    1998 Camaro Z28 LS1

    2003 Silverado 2500HD CCSB 4x4 6.6 Duramax (DD with minor mods for better "MPG's")

    Not too good with LS1s but I know you can cut the air baffle out of the radiator support for more flow to your lid. That's about all I know.

        alright thanks guys. also looking to change up my muffler for the summer just to have some kind of a rumble... plan on doin long tubes and full exhaust this coming winter but would like somethin for now... any recommendations on mufflers?

            You can bypass the coolant lines that run through the TB, if it's an M6 car you can find guides to bypass the skip shift solenoid, also there's a guide somewhere to turn have TCS turned off before you get in the car. All I can think of right now aside from what has been recommended.

            If you need exhaust stuff I have an old Pacesetter Y with a broken cutout and a hooker catback I can let go for cheap. Catback will need to be welded back together though, I wasn't too gentle getting it off of the car.

            Used to own a Firebird.

                98 LS1 cars are free to tune with EFIlive. I need to find someone with the setup so I can tune mine for the cammed 6.0

                A lid will help, but you will probably hear it. Not an offensive noise though Opening up the lower airbox isn't a great idea in my book unless you have the SLP (or similar) setup. At speed it will likely help, but even then I don't like the idea of pulling air from directly above the radiator. SLP "ram air" setup pulls air from down below:

                BBK makes a nice stainless header/y-pipe setup for a great price. Shop around and you can get it for around $325 (I paid $323 shipped I think)

                  BBK either has coated, or chrome. The chrome price if you went through LMPeformance and used their 10% of BBK, you can get it for about $350 shipped.

                  If you were going to go a ram air route. I'd go with the chrs1313 (i think that's how it is spelt) or a version of the SSRA.

                  You can find a lid for relatively cheap that will not break the bank, but will want to make sure the lid is 100% sealed up. I used gorilla tape for mine.

                    hmm alright thanks for the insight guys! noise doesnt bother me too much but it does bother my significant other... my son seems to love it though so im hopin to get some lee-way because of that haha. I'd like to start with a lid and a muffler change for this summer. I plan on doing a cam swap n maybe some factory ported heads, longtubes and full exhaust this coming winter. not goin for racecar here just somethin my family can enjoy n still take it to milan to play with every once n awhile!

                    I'm familiar with EFILive thats what i used to tune my duramax. ill have to look into it for the car!

                      I have an SLP loudmouth 1 and 4 inch chrome tips I'll let go for 100$ for the set. That will wake up that ls1 a little
