For real fred. The undercarriage of brian's car looks like an altoid mint!! This firebird has just a little more rust on the undercarriage than id want to deal with for a swap car. Didnt matter in my case, i bought it to be a beater. Just going to coat the bottom of it with lithium grease and forget about it.

Ok last update for the weekend. Worked on the car all day and don't have it driving yet, but so far I am very happy with my purchase. I did discover some bad things... like some random rust in odd locations but whatever, its a driver. Everything else today was all positive. Fuel filter is replaced and ready for the new pump. Then there were many things about the car that I just assumed had to be broken (per fbody law ) and it turns out they are not... such as the steering wheel controls. I started the car for a second time and I am definitely happy with how the car runs and sounds considering its running on fumes. below are some progress pictures. I have the passenger quarter panel all straightened out now, and its ready for body filler and paint!

              Fuel pump trap door:

These are both "After" pictures. In one picture I set the light in just the right spot to show the need for filler. This panel was bashed in at least to the degree my camaro's was, I think it straightened out pretty nicely for a novice like me banging on it with a hammer

joel you know better than to dive into buying 3.8 parts without consulting with me about it. Yea the 02 runs a different pump. The older 3.8s ran metal tanks with a different fuel system than the newer ones when they switched over to the plastic tanks. so no the 02 is definitely different. If you get a used one from a 95-97, and some 98s you will be fine. Or just get a walbro kit and call it a day. The v8 kits do work in the 3.8s. I ditched the bucket on mine and zip tied the pump to the metal frame.

Nice pickup though, any questions, let me know

Thanks! the thought definitely went thrrough my head believe me! I knew the tanks changed, i was hoping the pump didnt. I took a chance cause i wanted to get it running yesterday. Oh well, not a big deal I'm still well within my budget for this car

Thanks Todd! Things seem to be moving along well so far. I was hoping to pull the fuel pump today and assess whether or not i want to buy an entire sending unit or just a pump... but i didnt get a chance. Tomorrow!
