So I thought my key was bad, went and bought another key from my GM dealer. Doesnt work. Went back and he showed me the tester. Both keys work great and have the same number associated with them. After talking with the service tech guys they think that the ignition module its self has gone bad.
How the car has started so perfectly for the last week is beyond me, it simply will not start today. I'm not going to sweat the small stuff, I paid a lower level so I expect these issues.
To disable VATS it looks like I guy the wire going to the key, throw in a resistor with my value of ohms and that should just send the PCM the correct electrical signal without even needing the chip part of the key.
Here is the write up I found, there are many others like it: http://vats.likeabigdog.com/
Before I start hacking into this car, I want to think of other ideas.
Here is what happens:
Put car in N, put key in, turn one position and radio comes on(this confirms the key is good) turn to next part and the fuel pump primes like it does on all cars, turn it to Crank, and the SECURITY light comes on. Wait exactly three min and try it again.
OK, what do we think.
