  • Looking at sub-frame connectors...whats good?

Okay guys i need to get some subframe conectors is the first step in my build and there are a hell of a lot to choose from. So my question is whats good? what do you guys have? and how do you like them? Also idk if a 3 point is needed over a 2 point...whats the advantages? Any input is greatly aprciated.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I prefer UMI's stuff but any will work just fine, the weld in ones are highly recommended.

those are what I'm running. I had mine installed at Jakes automotive but the welds aren't great. Most any real performance shop can take care of you, Stenod is top notch.

be aware you have to pull back or remove the carpets for them to weld the subframes in. So you need to remove interior.

I plan to purchase the 3-point bolt-in subframe connectors at some point. Bolt in will be as strong as weld in, you just gotta make sure the bolts are tight every now and then. And the biggest bonus is that down the road you can have the bolt-ins welded in. Easier to install yourself + ability to weld in at a later time when it's more convenient = win for me. As for 3 point vs 2 point - I'm not really sure if 3 point is overkill or not but I'd rather go 3 point than 2 point. Just seems like the 3 point would do more than the 2 point would. Seems to be the same concept as a 6 point roll cage vs 8 point vs 10 point.

I recently purchased tubular bolt-in 2-points from Creight. Don't have them installed yet nor do I have them yet but I hope they work just fine. I didn't go with a 3-point because I don't think it would clear my y-pipe. I also did not like the three-hundred some dollar price tag. Later on I'll probably go with a tunnel mounted torque arm so that would be an issue too I'm guessing.

Brian makes a good point about bolt ons...but i dont really see spending the money on three points cause im kinda budget minded...so i think im just gonna go with bolt on umi boxed sub frames...Thanks all for the input and if anyone thinks im makeing a bad choice lmk

i had 3 point on my stroker car it got it the way of my y pipe, its good to have 3 point if you are going body mounted torque arm

i have a pair of 2 point on my current car just some no namers but they do the job. id prefer them just for sake of keeping the exhaust for having to be lower or banging.

i would never bother with bolt ins. You want the rigidity that welds offer.

I have SLP Weld-In 3 points. I like them, just speed bumps and me Y-pipe do not. I also have a tunnel brace.

I have bolt in two point UMI connectors (dont make 3 point for verts). got a deal on them from creight and am happy with them so far. I always figure buy the bolt in and if you want to weld them in later you can.

Exactly. Plus, how much more strength is a weld-in going to truly offer? I'm no engineer, and maybe this is where it comes in, but if you have something tightened securely or you have it welded, the forces that it's going to see from our sub-500hp beasts doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. Sure, eventually get them welded in just so you don't have to worry about the bolts coming undone, but will it REALLY matter? I think some people just go with the "weld ins are always better" bandwagon without really thinking about it.

On the 2pt vs 3pt, though, I appreciate everyone's input in this thread. I hadn't thought of interference with the y-pipe. Cost aside, that might be enough of a reason to go 2pt instead.
