it won't hurt the cats, your car will just be less emissions friendly at startup. You will probably have to have the code tuned out if it comes up, I'm not sure if it would or not.

LT1'ers - DELETE YOUR AIR PUMP!

I kept the air pump, when I put my headers on. Also got rid of the cat. And I just replaced the air pump this summer. When I found out it wasn't working. The engine was running in open loop. Since replacing the air pump the engine is in closed loop and runs smoother and the gas mileage is better. Just my two cents.Originally posted by 1qwikSS View Postso i know alot of people delete the air when they upgrade to headers and get rid of the cats....If someoneput in headers with a catted Y pipe...do they need to keep the air?

No impact to the environment whatsoever...the amount of carcinogens being emitted is the same.Originally posted by 1qwikSS View Postso its not harmful to your car to delete it with cats...only harmful to the environment?!!
But like Jeff said, you may throw a code because the perceived concentration is greater.Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! It annoys me more then anything.

Eek, sorry to hear Jake. But thanks for bumping this thread - it's been awhile since this thread was bumped -- with most of our cars down for storage, it'd be a great time for some folks to consider deleting the air pump over the winter.- Brian Meissen

Good plan - it's all useless anyway (since we're in MI and don't have emissions)- Brian Meissen

Dont let finding block off plates hold you back either, they are EASY to make on your own if you have basic tools. Just trace the gasket outline onto some 1/4 steel, cut it out, drill the bolt holes and youre done!-Joel

I'm running custom Joel block off plates. When I had my intake off I sealed and retightened the bolts1994 Z28 Black, M6, Hardtop, SLP Loudmouth I, GM Performance Cold-Air Intake, 96-97 SS spoiler, 17" x 9.5" Chrome Z06 Motorsports, Longtubes

AIR Plate - KOK-9126BO ($3.24, need 2 (listed as EGR, but it's for AIR)
EGR Plug - RNB-10230 ($2.95, need 1)
I got Felpro EGR gaskets too, all $25 shipped. Worth my time to just order them. Note, these are for LS engines, and I have NOT installed yet, so I can't guarantee fitment yet.

I had a problem with the block-off plate for my header not sealing. Can't remember where I got my kit though...
