I take my car in ever two years for the e test, not sure if I can delete... Maybe I'll just have the pump rebuilt or replace it.

AIR pump is required to reduce startup emissions, helps heats up the catalytic converter during the rich open loop.

I kept mine just because I don't know where I'll end up in the next few years. If I stay in MI, oh well, I lost a couple HP

I'm trying to get my 1995 Firebird Formula in better shape. I pulled the ABS and Traction Control solenoids and pump over the winter, and cleared some space in the front left engine compartment. Now I'm looking at the AIR system, thinking it would be nice to get rid of it. My question is, if I pull the pump and tubes out, will the PCM set the check engine light on the 1995 LT1s? GM was switching from OBD 1 to OBD 2 during 1995, but I'm not sure which diagnostic system my Formula got. We don't have emissions testing in Michigan, but I don't like seeing the SES light on in the dash.

Great question! I don't know specifically. My guess would be yes, the ECM will know. Even on my OBD1 '88, there is a diverter valve that is ECM controlled. If you disconnect it and leave it hanging, it will set a check engine light. Can't imagine they went backwards from there, but maybe.

I doubt this will do much, but JoeliusZ28 would probably know.

I imagine it would set the SES light, yes.
