  • LT1'ers - DELETE YOUR AIR PUMP!

Damned good reason to delete your AIR pump if you haven't already. Being that our LT1s are getting "up there" in age - the valves that the AIR pump uses can fail. If the valve fails, it lets HOT EXHAUST GAS out into the rubber hose which can catch fire / melt.

This guy only drove for 10 minutes - just think if he continued driving longer. The plastic around the fuel lines already melted... 10, 20 minutes longer and you'd have fuel blasting all over your engine and right onto those super hot exhaust and intake manifold.

its supposed to take air driectly from the manifolds and pump it back to the cats so they are warm at first startup and can function properly.

Melted right over the fuel line, nice.

Yeah exactly - with our cars getting older these valves are going to get more prone to failure.

I always thought plastic fuel lines were just a bad idea to begin with. That could have been a nasty fire should he have not caught it in time.

It also does a wonderful job of diffusing exhaust gasses so that your emissions "appear" to be better than they are...you still put out the same level of pollutants, but this allows more cars to pass the sniffer test.

Deleting AIR is not an option in an emission tested state.

so i know alot of people delete the air when they upgrade to headers and get rid of the cats....If someoneput in headers with a catted Y pipe...do they need to keep the air?

you guys can delete it with the stock manifolds and cats you just need block-off plates. If you wanted to delete it and keep cats thats fine too, but in reality cats don't function properly until they get hot.

so its not harmful to your car to delete it with cats...only harmful to the environment?!!

It really sounds like it doesn't hurt either one. Its like a cheat on getting by the emission test!
