I'm hoping it stays simple to fix for ya Red. I guess we all learned from that one, starting motor reving it and shutting off, never new that was a no no.
On a good note, I was quite amused how many people would stop in their tracks and turn to Reds car every time she started it. It really sounded wicked.sigpic

-edited- Kyle has been nothing but kind and helpful with regards to my car. He's the best as far as I'm concerned and there are always kinks to work out with a new rebuild. Besides, it could have been something I did. Just don't know yet so don't trounce on Kyle. Besides it is a super motor, not a supper plate.Originally posted by MiT/A'96 View PostX 2 ,,for sure ....
I never had that problem,but then again mine isn't a " Dr. LT1 383 Supper Motor"...
I agree Brian. I should not have started and stopped and started and revved and stopped. I learned a lesson. I should at least have let it run a bit before shutting it down.Originally posted by meissen View PostI don't know if I'd say it's sad, though? Cold starts + high revs + shutting it off right after = fouled plugs. lesson learned and easy fix.
Don't know yet Missy. Kyle is here now and just changed the plugs but it still backfires nasty bad on the drive side. Next thing to try might be the cap. Hope you get your car figured out too. This blows!Originally posted by fbodyhottie View PostGlad to hear it was just something simple! I hope thats the case with my z!Last edited by meissen; September 3rd, 2009, 07:22 PM.sigpic

Dang it Red, just read the thread, was hoping it would be all squared away when I got to the end..
Good luck, hope it gets figured out soon!
Agree on the revving, never good to rev a cold motor, I always start mine and let it run a few minutes before I even move it and I never get on it til it is at full operating temp..
Keep us posted..sigpic

S'all good Red, I didn't know that either. Heck, until this weekend I never heard you're suppose to let a cammed engine warm up before driving it. Though I still don't do it - I can't let my car warm up in the driveway at 6am in the morning, piss off the neighbors too much.- Brian Meissen

As long as you take it easy till it warms up, shouldn't be a problem..Originally posted by meissen View PostS'all good Red, I didn't know that either. neighbors probably wouldn't care if it weren't for the fact that you leave the cutouts openOriginally posted by meissen View PostS'all good Red, I didn't know that either. Alright, the gremlin still exists
Going to go back tomorrow and take the darn opti off and see if something is a miss with it.
And before anyone jumps on a band wagon about MSD it's an AC Delco distributer with a MSD cap.

Ya, it's back firing raelly bad and it all seems to be on the drivers side.
Now one thing I do find funny and it's what has me thinking opti since what I did didn't fix the problem is that plugs 1, 3, 2,& 4 were all nice but plugs 6, 8, 5, & 7 were all fowled with heavy carbon buildup and that is where the black smoke may have come from.

No I'm not that bad. At a hotel where I don't care about anyone else there - yes. In my own neighborhood where I live next door to these people every day... cutout is closed as soon as I enter the neighborhood.

What about the o2 sensor on that bank, Kyle? O2 reads bad, causes the engine to load up on fuel on that side... If she's fouling out plugs that quickly, the o2s could be getting coated with a bunch of soot just the same.Originally posted by Phantom383 View PostYa, it's back firing raelly bad and it all seems to be on the drivers side.

its the back 2 cylinders on both sides, so both o2 would be bad and coated.sigpic
