  • Buying parts...finally

I found out that I actually can take my car up to school this fall and don't have to garage it for 10 months...
    so:
    Money-check
    Time-check, well, kinda
Parts-to be ordered within a day or two.

    I'm planning on:
    LPP stainless headers/3" stainless ORY
    Motor mounts (Solid or poly?)
I've read that solid is overkill for a street car but IMO the solid mounts won't sag and the Y would have no chance of hitting the k-member but...they're $149 anywhere I can find them and they'd make the car shake really bad especially if I ever swap out the heads/cam. Plus they'd be bad on a date I suppose (omg, why is your car shaking so much? what's wrong with it? and so on and so forth). Poly mounts are $55.99 from CS3 which is where I'll be buying if I get the poly's.
    Your thoughts?

Oh yeah, and 24" O2 extensions off ebay. So pretty much everything Brett (Schuby 87) did with his exhaust because I bought my car with the hooker catback.

And I've got a good story to type out tomorrow as well.

    Used to own a Firebird.

Get polys. Also idk how old your o2's are but I had good success with Bosch 13111's and you wont need extensions.

I ordered the same borla exhaust too, and love the way it sounds it also looks very nice. I have people asking me all the time what kind of exhaust it is because it sounds so good. I got mine from borla parts here, -Link Removed- and was pleased with the price a delivery time. You should also check craigslist sometimes you can find a used set.

      LMAO

Some good mods you have there. I'd love to put longtubes on my car but then its going to sound like Kolin's.

Only place I can find the headers is on Ebay but I'm sure they're the LPP's because they have the same seams and welds...unless there's another china-made copycat out there?

I'll also be ordering some stuff for work since I can get it at a pretty good deal. Parts such as new header bolts from ARP...
How long are the wires on those Bosch O2's?

              I have a Hooker cat-back like Brett.

Oh yeah, and I'll make sure to record some higher rpm rev's for a before/after vid.

I'd stick with poly, if you want to, also. I had it explained a while back and it made sense. On the road, you have, as we all know, potholes, imperfect roads and various other things that could put undue stress on things like the block, as well as the trans case. You figure the engine and trans is always twisting in some way or another when you drive, even with a smooth road. If you take away the twist points, you may be heading for a lot of trouble down the road. At the very least, there will be a lot of vibration that will be channeled into the body. If it were a pure strip car, yeah, the vibration, noise and general absence of creature comforts is no big deal, but to go through it day in and day out. You won't end up liking the result.

Yep I do suppose I'll go poly then. Are there any advantages to a cutout, at all, for a motor (ok, well, car) as slightly modified as mine? I know it only changes the power curve to make more in the upper end but would it be at like 8k where I'll never reach it?

Those are not LPP headers. These have a different flange, collector, and EGR. Plus, there is no ORY. They are also too cheap.

From what I understand, when I bought mine, they were one of the last sets that were available.

There is no other way to put it than just LOUD. It's not even a good loud, its ear piercing. You dont have to worry though. You aren't running a Loudmouth like we are.

From a performance standpoint, there's no real gain to a cutout unless you have a stock/restrictive catback on it. In Jeff Farr's case - with his stock catback he was at 400hp, and with the cutout open it skyrocketted to 440. My gain was only 4-5hp. Honestly, though, that said, I still love my cutout and if you're willing to spend the extra cash on it, I'd get one.

These seem pretty nice, Brian gave me the link a while back. Well they seem nice for the price anyways, and they look like they're the same thing...

Anyways the LPP Y should work anyways since it's a 2-piece part isn't it?
If not it's all just a matter of heating and bending, again and again. That'd be a pain.
