How long does a cam swap take if you had someone who knew what they were doing?? Also what is the degree of difficulty in installing it?? I wouldn't wanna **** up my engine because I messed something up.sigpic

took me and my dad roughly 12 hours of work spread out between 2 days, he knows exactly what he is doing and he was going way slow to teach me a bunch of stuff.
so 12 hours on the slow side?wishing i could drive like joe and the atm squad

i would love to do it but i do not have time, the max my car could be down for would be about 3 days. I would rather pay someone who knows exactly what they are doing and get it done. looking on ls1tech i am seeing ~600 for cam and spring install. Maybe less now with the economy the way it is.

No. Along with the cam and springs I'd like to replace the pushrods and roller rockers. IDK if I'd also do the lifters. rockers are not needed. if you do lifters the heads have to come off. A new chain never hurts. With the heads on I'd say 4-5 hours but as mentioned most of that is changing out the springs which I've actually never done. If you wanted to take the heads off add a few more hours. I believe Sean did a full cam and valvetrain swap with the heads off and back together in one night

haha yeah that was pretty insane, with beer and pizza thats all the motivation we needed.

what else is needed for the swap, so far i have:
Cam - Comp LSR
Pushrods - Comp Hi -Tech 5/16 in. Dia.; .105 in. Thickness; 7.4 in. Length
Ls2 Timing chain
What i know i still need/want
Springs - haven't ordered yet
Roller rockers - i know i don't need but i want them

Skip the rockers, the stock ones hold up just as well as aftermarket pieces and are much cheaper
If anything find the new 01+ style and get a set. I would also recommend investing in a new oil pump personally I'd go with a ported LS6 unit, too bad I pretty much have both my extra ones sold otherwise I'd give you a good deal.
You will also need a tool to change out the springs, as well as gaskets which an be had in a package from Texas speed. Coolant and fresh oil as well as some loctice, rtv silicon sealant and a torque wrench and also a 3 arm pulley puller. 16 pen magnets come in handy or a couple long wooden or metal dowel rods to hold up the liftersLast edited by DETROITMUSCLE; January 22nd, 2009, 09:34 AM.Doing less with more

To do a cam, chain, lifters, spings and install heads would take 4-6 hrs.
SHoot changing the springs on the head alsone would take 2hrs alone.
