  • Manual Transmission Help

Ok, I'm I having problems with a mount of some sort along the Driveline. If I am in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear and give it a decent amount of throttle, my shifter lifts up. In first gear it will come close to lifting 1.5 inches up. I pulled my transmission mount off today cause I thought that was it for sure. Looking at it, it does have a tear on it. I tried to show it in a picture but it was pretty blurry.

^You can see right above that bolt hole a small tear. This is about 1/8 thick rubber, that appears to just cover up an opening, because on the other side, there is an opening and it doesn't appear to have material ripped off. Question I have is, it looks like this part was made to dampen some of the lateral load put on the transmission threw the opening. Is this true? Will that tear effect anything?
    Another blurry picture

Also took another picture of the Torque Arm Mount(I think). Does anything look to be wrong with it? I can take more pictures if anyone needs to see more.

The trans mount....your torque arm mount looks pretty crummy but it will not cause the trans to lift up under accel....the only thing that can cause the trans to physically lift up like that under hard accel is a broken trans mount.

Ok, looks like I'll be picking one up tomorrow. Just tying to be clear, but there is no way that it can be a motor mount?

Never broken a motor mount...not real common...besides I would think you would have bigger problems with a broken motor mount. Trans mounts fail all the time...I've had it happen twice personally.....it does exactly as you describe.

I agree with James, it very likely it is the trans mount ..... however ..... I did have a '69 Impala with a broken motor mount. I found out when, under hard acceleration, the motor lifted high enough to dent the hood. This was an auto with colume shift so I don't know how high the trans lifted but I would say it's possible.

Sigh, with as much as I talk about the site, I still don't think that he even knows what an F-Body is. My brother fails pretty hard, lol.

I'd buy a polyurathene mount.. Those rubber ones don't last long once you start modding yur car out. I've replaced em on both my cars, the camaro...TWICE. Now a third time since I seemed to have lost the poly mount lol.

Do they make Delrin trans mounts?
