Doesn't your firebird already have a functional ram air hood?? Do you want cooler air? or do you like the looks of a cowl hood? If you want cooler air, there are many other ways to find cool air.Originally posted by kingofhill21 View PostIs the 4" legal on the road?
Personally I don't care for cowl hoods much bigger than 2-2.5 inches inless your running low 11s or better. Personally I feel kinda silling have a cowl hood on my chevelle that has a small block. In the future I want to make a heat extracting hood to lower the pressure in the engine compartment. I really wanto to add function vents to the fenders/doors but it my car didn't need any more set backs.

There is nothing functional about the hood that is on my car now! Its just a trans am replica hood that is not functional! Now a cowl would benefit me in many ways, like for example, i could run a 2" spacer which would give me more hp in the end. Right now with the 1" spacer and the wrap around air filter barely fits under the hood on the 750 crm carb.

Make it functional! Everyone has a cowl hood, shoot even pick up trucks have cowl hoods. In my opnion the ram air feature on Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles W-30 were some of the neatest hoods GM made.Originally posted by kingofhill21 View PostThere is nothing functional about the hood that is on my car now! Not to sound like an ass but an inch more on the carb isn't going to make much of a difference power wise.

Hum! Dont get me wrong i love the looks of the current hood! Are there hoods like the one i have that are functional? Say like air travels through the hoods scoops and has an opening right above the carb?

The 1969 Trans Am had functional hood scoops. But I have no idea if they are being reproduced.Originally posted by kingofhill21 View PostHum! Dont get me wrong i love the looks of the current hood! Those are good numbers.Originally posted by kingofhill21 View PostWell it did a 13.6 with the 600cfm carb spinning half way down the track if that helps any. I did just put the 750 on it!
