  • 5th gen Camaro Z/28

Just found this on motortrend, kind of interesting. Looks to have a transformers-era front bumper cover.

Even if GM doesnt do z28 or z/28 the dealers will create their own Z-28 or some way other way to get around it.

huh? I thought SS was supposed to be top dog!

CAFE standards might prove it to be that way though

The Z28 should be the top dog! SS should be under it

Look at it this way, SS is confirmed with a 426hp motor, Z/28 is not confirmed and the only logical motor choice is either the new diesel(it could happen) or the LS7/LS9.

Once I realized that the ss vs z28 argument isnt valid to me.

I just hope that they are wrong on the differences. Z/28 needs to be just like the original: legendary. Auto news has been slow lately so I thought I would post it. Just wait until tomorrow...

yea, read some camaro history for yourself and form your own opinion. Not everyone sees it that way and its been a blood bath topic on MANY message boards for the last 4 years.

the 69 ZL1 was the top dog. It wasnt a Z/28 or SS, just a plain Camaro with a big engine. lol..

I'm just happy to Z/28 come back.

                    ZL1 would work too, haha.

Ah yes, the age old question ........... kinda like the chicken and the egg. LOL

One thing most everyone seems to forget when the debate rages on between the Z28 and SS is that the Z28 was intended to be a road racing oriented package and the SS, especially the big blocks (including the COPO 427 cars) were intended to be more drag race oriented. So the only way to settle this is to say there are TWO top dogs. Both the Z28 and the SS were/are top dogs.

I'd love to see a Z28 model come back. Just hope GM can survive long enough to give us one!

fwiw - here is the official word from GM on their internal launch site

"Are there any plans for a Z28 model?

Chevrolet is continuing to look at lifecycle enhancements for Camaro. Currently there is no announcement to be made on a Z28 model."

"Why is SS the uplevel model for Camaro instead of Z28?

The SS trim level was chosen to place Camaro among the other flagship offerings in Chevy’s SS model lineup. Camaro SS will join Cobalt SS, HHR SS, and TrailBlazer SS in this high performance portfolio."
