New Camaro/Z28 info

Someone who I know talked to someone important from GM about the new Camaro today and I found out a couple key things about it. The information is as far as I know true because the person who told me the stuff works at an automotive testing place where some tests will be done on the Camaro in the future, and the person she talked to was sorta important. This is what I learned:

• The Z28 WILL BE the top model
• BUT... it will cost around $70,000 supposedly
• The new Camaro will be out in January, not any earlier

I actually hope whomever they talked to was lying, cause a $70,000 Camaro seems ludicrous to me

Based on chevy's current C6's, and if the information was true

'08 C6 Z06 $72,125 starting w/ the LS7
'08 C6 $46,950 w/ the LS3

so possibly...

Z28 w/ LS7 ~70K
SS w/ LS3 ~40K

or maybe the Z28 will get the LS9?

either way if the Z28 is 70K, it would be ridiculous because the Z06 is about the same cost

why would you buy a camaro Z28 when you could have a C6 ZO6? no way a Z28 will take more than mid 40's to own. If it does then GM really is trying to kill it before it even gets to production.

Who knows... The GM guy also didn't understand why the Z28 was the higher model based on the Camaro's lineage...


But still, I don't agree with a Camaro that competes with the Z06

The Z28 was always the top model in terms of performance wasn't it? everyone always seems to think the SS was. wasn't the SS essentially a visual package? somebody please clarify, I'm too young to know this. haha.

The Z28 originally had the famed 302 engine that was terribly underrated.

SS was not just an appearance package on Camaros, it included bigger motors too.

Its hard to know what to believe anymore. Im just wondering if this guy was sick of people asking and started making up info as he went along. But if you try and compare the Camaro to the Corvette it makes a little sense. You can have the base car, then if you want better you can have the SS, and if you have too much money, you could get the Camaro equivalent of a Z06

And if GM's timeline continues the way it should, their model should be done by September with production in October... So HOPEFULLY they test the car this summer and strings can be pulled so I can come watch

This is the lineup that makes sense to me:

base-luxury vette = SS Camaro / LS3
Z06 vette = Z28 Camaro / LS7 (or even just an LS3 again)
ZR1 vette = ZL1 Camaro / LS9 *VERY limited production*

The LS9 version is the only one i could see being anywhere close to 70k, if they even produce that.

Id also like to see a 5.3 availible for the Rally Sport appearance package like the 305 was with third gens.

I also do not believe anything that anyone says right now. Until GM releases the lineup, its only a matter of people telling other people that their opinion is wrong.

chevy will never let anything even come close to touching the vette. that is their pride and joy. The camaro was never designed to compete with it. why would it be? they are the same company. the two cars serve two different purposes and always have. the vette is and will always be untouchable. I love those cars! I've been known to wet my pants just thinking about ZO6's. tmi? sorry.

Negative, the Z28 was intended to be a comprehensive road race package...the SS model could be made to do this but always had more (and higher) hp motor selections.

Generally speaking, if there was an SS offered, it was the top line vehicle.

Negative, production is to start February next year, but they are on schedule.

OK, you ready for this?

Just last week GM decided to have BOTH the SS and Z28 have badging on the steering wheels (originally just the SS was to have badging, indicating that it would be the top line model).

Just to further muddy the waters...
