i think second gen takes it for me too... they all have there good and bad years outta each gen though... and even then which model there are alot of firebirds i dont think i would buy but the difference in style between them and say a TA of the same year makes a huge differance same with camaro.. some plain ones might not get my attention but most SS or RS style cars can make me change my mind... but i dont think i could pick a favorite.. so when im rich ill just take one of each... thanks

Maybe we should think of it this way:
What style/version makes a viewer (not only you that own, but also non-owners, or casual observers) immediately say "THAT is a ________" - above and beyond any other version. From a distance, close up, moving, parked.

For Mustang, thats the first gen, and their 70's versions tried to retain much of that look. Later versions could be confused with Sable, EXP, BMW.

For Firebirds, the original wasn't a finished product - they have no choice, no time, so it just looked a lot like a Camaro. The late 1st and 2nd gens effectively define the styling cues that people recognize. Therefore, that's the "retro-style" that GM should shoot for to make $$.

Camaro, you guys can duke it out, but the late 2nd gen Camaros looked the best to me. Is the 1stgen really the universally recognized styling prototype that GM should have used for a "Retro" look?

I don't see many "retro" styling ala Edsel, or Corvair - because everybody is trying to forget those. Regardless of the powertrain each model suffered from, the new drivetrains will do fine, but we want GM to use a universally reconized, nostalgic set of styling cues in order to rope in the most sales.
I can tell you that before I started looking for my F-bod, I had no idea what they looked like since the early 90's - the aerodynamic requirements of todays cars force most all cars to look the same - like triumph said, the shape of things to come.

Remember we want the 5th gen to be very popular, sell gobs, so GM will continue making them.
                  Make sense?

Which is why they made it look the way they did. The Camaro has been universally and unanimously hailed in all shapes and forms since the unveiling. The only thing that has received a lot of criticism is the interior, which they've already said is going to change by production. No car before the Camaro has ever received such attention at the autoshows, the Camaro has dominated the news and the crowds. So yeah, I understand a few of you don't like it, but just remember you're in the minority, don't think just because you don't like it that it's not going to do well. Yes I do like it, but more than that, I've seen the huge feedback the Camaro has gotten on various sites, and it's won out.

As far as styling cues from each generation, I see a lot of styling cues from every generation, it's mostly 1st gen based, but I see a lot of heritage from the other gens too. Egg crate grill screams 2nd gen, headlights 1st and 2nd gen, the secondary grill at the bottom 3rd gen, the stance, width, and height reminds me of the 4th gen even though it's smaller than the 4th, the greenhouse looks like a mix between the 4th and the 1st (4th with the rake of the windshield, 1st with the triangular window)

I'm a self proclaimed head cheerleader against this thing. While I am glad they are going to build it, I just don't care for it. Yes, there are styling cues from all gens but IMO the general shape is all first gen. I know what I think won't matter and that it probably will sell well. Maybe, I'll warm up to it someday. It will sell like hotcakes to the baby boomer mustang driver non brand loyal crowd. While most of what I have seen also indicates that most of us "enthusiasts" like it as well, I'm just not sure this will be a timeless classic design like the first gen.

I'm glad it's coming back, and while I luckilly liked it, I remember long before always saying I don't care what it looks like, they're bringing it back. As long as GM plays their cards right and the car sells, which I definitely think this concept will, then there's the chance at 6th gen, 7th gen, which you can then say whether or not you like those. So, bear with the 5-6, maybe even to 8 to 10 years the 5th gen lasts, then be happy with the 6th gen Camaro.

I know, I'm getting married and having a baby in 6.5 months. I don't see me buying a new sports car for at least 20 years, lol. That's why I'll be taking car of the one I have. So that puts me in line for a 7th gen Camaro, lol.

Yeah, either my 80 will end up looking like a 70 or 72 or I will sell it and try to find a 70-72 split bumper.
