Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!
If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us!
Humm, it still lookis like the charger type in back and sits high,, I like it cause they came back out, but i would deffenently lower it as soon as i got one in the driveway, and do some other mods also.......
That means you're left with two choices: Hardtop, convertible.
Therefore, a hardtop with a sunroof is just fine.
I have to agree with this. As much as I'd love a t-top option, I'm not going to let that deter me from buying the car. I'll get the sunroof so I can open 'er up. ...hmm, or maybe buy a hard top and then cut the top to create a t-top.

Who cares? It's a car people, c'mon now. People chop up 4th gens to convert their hard tops into T-tops -- granted it's got the structure for it, but it can't be THAT much harder to do. Definitely not saying it'd be 100% safe... lol
At that, it'd be freaking awesome, really.. if they had gotten far enough into planning for t-tops that they left the structure for t-tops under the sheet metal. I know Jeff said it's not there, but hypothetically... that'd be awesome. Laws prevent GM from actually having factory t-top cars, but if people wanted them bad enough they'd be able to make it themselves, hahaha that's one way to get what you want. GM gives you the underpinnings, you just gotta be the one to do the "unlawful" mod.

maybe Im a moron, but seriously how can a convertable be more "crash test safe" than a TTOP car. Last I checked SOMETHING over a persons head is a bit more than nothing.. if they say no ttops because of crash tests thats bull IMO

How is it a fail? Blame the government and all the idiot proofing they have to do to keep everyone safe from themselves for the death of T tops. Moonroofs are the solid steel panels that recess back into the roof. A sunroof has glass.
i never said i was blaming GM. You better believe im blaming NHTSA.

Two points brian:
1) T-top parts for a 5th gen wont be readily availible like they are for a 4th. A t-top conversion, while admittedly possible, is going to take a LOT of money. The entire piece will need to be custom fabricated, and that could easily add up to $3000 by the time youre done. its doable at best.
2) I agree about cutting one up. When i first saw the camaro was going to have b-pillars (and i assumed this was because of t-tops) I thought to myself... well gee it cant be that much work to take a sawzall to a b-pillar and add some custom glass! Since I first saw this concept I have been envisioning a hardtop, OPEN WINDOW car in my garage some day. I dont know what it is but i just love when a rear quarter window disappears as its rolled down. At this point, GM is going to produce neither that, NOR a t-top model... all because of my good buddies over at NHSTA. remind me to send them a thank you letter.

youre not a moron, you've hit the nail on the head. NHSTA ****s up everything
We can also thank NHSTA for the added height to the car (that we've always known was goign to happen), as well as the cars *current* behemoth weight of 4000-4200 pounds.
CAFE and NHSTA are fantastic organizations if you support the deterioration of free market and civil liberties These organizations only move in one direction, so be ready to kiss your convertible goodbye in the future too. NHSTA was founded to protect the consumer from stupidly dangerous designs, something that is necessary but taken too far. "stupidly dangerous" would be a design on a car that actually CAUSES injury , instead of a car that merely fails to keep its occupants safe in accidental conditions. Obviously, theyve been doing a little more than that for quite some time now.
now that im done ranting... I applaud GM for still managing to produce an awesome looking car while having to deal with all this BS. This definitely wont stop me from buying the car, but it does further fuel my hatred for an organization that is messing with my dream car.

That already happened. You're too young to remember. Ever notice there's no factory verts from 1977 to about 1985. They were deemed unsafe and the only verts available were from 3rd party conversions. Demand from the market helped bring them back.

Hey, as long as they don't bring back those goofy half and half sunroffs from the late 70's early 80's I'm good.
You mean the "His N Hers" sunroofs? I don't think those were ever a factory option though.

Probably more than that unless a major player like ASC decides the business case makes sense and makes a 5th gen T-top conversion kit.

To pile on to Joel's rant, 95% NHSTA's job is to protect stupid people.
People who don't wear seat belts.
People who put their child seats in the front passenger seat instead of the rear.
So if you know people like this, you can thank them for the increasingly restrictive constraints being built into your car.
