You should be on the right path with the trans cooler and shift kit. They are pretty nice cars though, we have had ours since 30,000mi, now its at 72,000mi and the only thing we have replaced is brakes, tires, and water pump.
It seemed like DoD caused a lot of the problems my Saab had too (5.3 97x). If I bought a new truck id probably tune that out right away. I'd rather pay at the gas pump than be replacing transmissions, spark plugs, and head gaskets all the time.

They are nice cars, and decently quick. Looks like the trans issue was already covered, lol. My buddies trans puked for the second time 2 weeks ago. They need a rebuild with QUALITY aftermarket heavy duty parts to survive. Just a bad design really.

I also feel that the weak point of my cobalt is the transmission My Tuner makes similar power to the GXP (but has stickier tires and weighs less). This why I have an extra one for when it fails.

I never realized that car had smaller tires in the rear of the car 255 45 vs 225 50

I think its awesome that GM even made a car like that given the period it was designed in.

To this day, the last few years of Monte Carlo SS looks BA IMO.

You don't need to tell me I think I got 22,000 miles out of my stock continentals.
I am glad I don't drive as much as I used to else I would be buying $5-700 tires every year.
